Bath beads! Remember when The Body Shop had those huge decanters of them in the windows at the mall? And they came in different shapes, like stars and dolphins. Dolphins were such a thing in the 90's... I'm a fan of bath oils, I read tacky old paperbacks in the tub so I like products that condition and have staying power (in case I get swept up and lose track of time). I also swear by mustard bath powders for allergy season or cold symptoms.

Yes I do remember that Jaina Von Haslsing when The Body Shop had all these different shapes of bath beads. I especially remember the dolphins one. @@QueenOfTheNorth65 It, like the other mass market "family" bubble bath powders that arrived ca. 1960, were formulated similarly to high-suds all-purpose detergents. Ca. 1970 they were reformulated chiefly to weaken them -- still getting their suds primarily from sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, but cut with inert filler, that just meant you needed to use more of it to get the same effect. Other formulas, chiefly as liquids, improved the bubble to rash-making ratio.

I wish I could indulge in lovely bubbles, oils, perfumes, soaps, lotions and talcs. My skin sensitivity says NO. I remember my mother filling her tub often. It was her escape from stress. There was always a luxurious bubble bath or oil in the water. After a soak, she had a variety of lotions and powders to apply. Jean Nate, L'Air Du Temp, Yardley....those were familiar smells. I myself due to joint problems can't negotiate getting down into the tub and then out again, so I am a shower only person.

Oh how I wish I could find vintage Avon catalogs. So many memories, I still use Avon. Jean Nate used to have a powerpuff and I got into my grandmother's one day playing with her things on her dresser. She scared me and powder went everywhere. She laughed so hard and I was covered head to toe in Jean Nate powder lol 😂🤣If you ever get your hands on Benandre perfume oil bath salts, you'd be blown away. I have no idea why this company vanished and the product was discontinued. It was such a lovely blue color and the bath water turned blue as well. The whole house would be filled with that fragrance. It was my late mothers favorite. You would come out so silk smooth and luxurious. It came in these big beautiful tin cans they had these very European artwork on them. See if you can track it down. I doubt I'd soak in a tub but I might use it as a foot soak. Maybe a scent memory. She used it in the 80s and 90s then it vanished. Not sure when it came out. Fun video

Calgon was first the water softener that you could also use to soften your bath water. All the other Calgon items came out years later. The first Mr. Bubble was the pink box a powder, marketed to children, Also, in the 1960's, Soaky was marketed to children, with a myriad of cartoon characters that could be played with when empty. In the 70's, Vitabath came from Europe, with the Sring Green scent, the Pink scent, and Yellow Lemon Scent. The company has changed, but the Spring Green Scent is still available today! Their original powder was labeled for use in both laundry and bathing; few people had dishwashers then. "Calgon" is a generic name for its active ingredient, sodium hexametaphosphate, whose highest-volume use was prevention of boiler scale, for instance in steamship engines, but it had gotten the name calgon in photography. The common origin of both uses tends to shock people today on learning about it, because it's now used as a trademark on products pitched differently.
