Really nice build! Other channels give me "seam anxiety", but you concentrate on developing skills other than endless filling and sanding. I love the look of a hand-painted model, too.

Thanks! I hate sanding and filling seams, it’s just so tedious. I do it on some builds and not so much on others, after all we should do what we enjoy right? 😀

Excellent job, Matt. May I give you a tip? If you paint the wheel wells first, you can mask it later with paper towels. Tear up an acceptable size and stuff them in the wheel wells. Apply water with a dropper to soften the paper towel. It makes it workable to form to the wheel bays. You'll save yourself a headache later trying to paint the wheel bays after construction and painting.

Great video! I love building older kits too. I think there is a difference between builders and modellers. Builders just want a straight forwards build. Modellers like the challenge. Not that there is anything wrong with either, just different expectations. Thanks for creating and for the channel

I don’t tend to label people because that begins to gatekeep the hobby and sow unnecessary division, there are already enough people trying to say what is right or wrong in scale modelling as it is, so why not let people just enjoy it how they want without having to put people in boxes. Just enjoy what you do and help encourage others so that the hobby keeps growing

A decent job, young Matthew. Kits like these should indeed be made. Together with Esci, Heller's 1/72 a/c subjects have always had a pleasant and delicate finesse about them, especially when one considers their age. Nice to see Norwegian markings, too.

Thanks very much, I Hope you enjoy it! I've been keeping a track of all my builds in my own copy - I would recommend using a biro (ball tip pen) or pencil to write in it when you keep a track of your projects - the pages Amazon use are prone to a bit of ink bleed if you use something "runnier" like a felt tip, gel or fountain pen

I think modelling should be just for fun - sometimes I find I put too much pressure on myself to do well and it is nice to step back and just enjoy the hobby. Vintage kits are great for this because that pressure feels less, they are already dated and aren't too expensive so If I mess it up, it's not too much of a problem :)

Great job. I built the Heller Thunderjet (the 2013 print I think with different decals) and the Heller Noratlas a couple of years ago. The molding was ok, considering the old tooling. Really disappointing were the decals with both kits. They were unusable, very thick, didn't stick on the surface no matter what amount of decal-softener I poured over it and then eventually broke into pieces, very frustrating. Due to that experience I would never touch a Heller kit again, even though, they have interesting planes in their range. Tamiya has also a 1/72 kit of the Thunderjet, which I built later, much better and much more fun to do.

Hello there I have built the mistercraft version of this aircraft and this kit looks to be the same .you have made a nice job of this kit paint job looks good 👍 happy modelling everyone
@ModelMinutes2 ай бұрын
I think the Mistercraft version was the Inplast tooling from 1989. When I say “tooling” I mean “copy” as it would appear to be a slightly altered copy of the Heller tooling, the main difference being recessed panel lines, but a generally more questionable quality as well
@anthonylichfield35402 ай бұрын
Yes you are right the quality was a bit rough but it did not look to bad after painting 😊
@ukaszbadura56702 ай бұрын
I bulit this plane from HobbyBoss. I think this exact model with the Heller mold is also available from Mistercraft.

@animalyze71202 ай бұрын
Actually the older the kit the less flash (Generally speaking, even back then the same issues with plastics were common). Flash is the result of 2 things the most common being cheaper recycled plastics with the heat settings on the machines not adjusted causing the cheap plastic to run between the joints as it was too thin for the designed joints on the molds. 2nd was regular plastics that got over heated usually when large batches were being created. 3rd issue was the plastic wasn't heated enough cause the plastic to be too thick to make it down all the runners resulting in what we call "Short-Shot". These days many companies use recycled plastics with older molds and incorrect temp settings which is why folks think incorrectly that the molds are worn out due to age. That may be true in ceramic molds but not metal ones. Short-shot is usually seen on the first few runs and are mostly caught and melted back down, some do get through of course.

Hi Matt. Good video as always. I see that you used Humbrol Clear Varnish. When I recently used this product, both from a spray can and by brush from the bottle it left a milky residue all over the model, meaning it had to be repainted. Any ideas as to what I did wrong?
@ModelMinutes2 ай бұрын
I’ve not had any problems with the gloss, but the Matt version can leave a residue. I believe it can be caused by not enough mixing and humidity. To combat this, I’ve added either a drop of hot water, gently warmed the paint before use, or added a little gloss to the mix. These fixes seem to work. If you have that chalky finish, a gloss coat can hide it and then you can retry the Matt varnish. The best Matt varnish from humbrol in my experience is their 49 acrylic rattle can. Easy to apply, consistent and fast drying
