That was a really cool find! With just a little restoration, that knife probably has another lifetime of hunting left in it👍Cheers, buddy!

Awesome Randy, I have a West cut very similar but no rings at top. The vine sheath looks just like the ones Western used.

The blade does look a lot like a Western 48. I don't know if Western ever made that model without the 'bifurcated' tang. That one appears to have a stick tang. Western did make the 66 model with a stick tang (70s? 80s?) so maybe they offered the 48 that way too. The 66 and 48 were very common knives. A 50s vintage 66 was my first fixed blade. Sometime in the 70s I picked up an L48 which became my most used fixed blade into the early 80s. Excellent knife. Got talked out of it by a friend, figured Westerns were so common I could always buy a new one if I missed it.... Got nostalgic about 20 years ago only to discover Western was no more. Replaced it on Ebay and was surprised how small the handle felt... Still a dandy knife. Mine saw a lot of duty on trout and around camp. Works fine on Deer too.

Thanks for the info! I really have no clue about this one. If it's western, than it is strange that the tan says NY. That was the only info I could find though. How you are doing well! (^_^)

I am still trying to figure out Why they sent that bear and son exclusive to you for FREE!! maybe the Skulls? Or just cause you are a great guy! Thats a great bird and trout knife on loan for sure! Great shape for over 50yr. for sure. could use a clean up, and I love the stacked leather!
