Airfix are spot on with the way they give the details of the Vintage Classics mould age on the outside of the box so you can properly understand what you're getting. Also good that they acknowledge the illustration artist (even though it is almost always Roy Cross!).

I built this kit soon after it came out in the 1960s. As a young model builder in the US it was great to discover Airfix and biuld kits of planes I had never heard of before . The Boomerang , the Walrus , the Anson ,the Hallifax , etc soon became favorites soon became favorites.

I'm sure that the stencils now included are lovely, but boy would my 11 year old fingers have had 'fun' with those had they been included in the original kit... and there's 100's of 'em !

You know I gave up buying that kit 24 times airfix tried to post it to me ….but it kept going back to them 😂,1965 three years before I was rolled out ,the year thunderbirds first graced out Tv ,the Concorde design for the prototype was frozen and assembly began ,the GPO tower was complete(opened in 66) and the last standard length Routemaster was delivered to LT after that it was the RML,yes a good kit that Keeps making a come back,always guaranteed to make a good return for airfix 😊 Cheers Gary Mark 😊😊

I remember making this kit back in the late 60's. It originally came in the Airfix plastic bag format. Perhaps that is why the sprues were so compact to get the kit in the small bag. As for all the stencils on the new transfer sheet I think, if all of them are put on the model, it can look like the model has got small bugs all over it. Whilst I am sure they are all in scale there is an overall scaling effect to be aware of.

l remember this as a kid in the 60s a school friend's dad made model kits and he had them in cabinets and for some reason this one and the llyushin ll-2 are stuck in my mind anyway looking forward to the history and build videos 👍

If I can find one of these cheap enough I'll buy it for the markings and stencils on the decal sheet. For a good Boomerang I'll start with one from either Special Hobby or (best of all in terms of accuracy, though a lot of work) Tasman.

Nice review mate. But are airfix just taking the piss out of their customers . Old tooling , poor framing, minimal details and recycled ever thing. And detail level from the 1970s. Apart from nostalgia, and the improved decals arethe vintage classic releases worth your hard earned money?
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
It’s why they are called Vintage Classics. Use the old tools (with a bit of repair) but add new decals. These are kits they are not likely to invest in brand new tooling, but of subjects that have historical interest.
@davidshanahan5134 Жыл бұрын
Nostalgia is everything with these kits. I reckon it’s a great move from Airfix - many people remember these kits from their younger days. As long as they use the vintage classics label you know what you’re getting.
@crazylocha2515 Жыл бұрын
@@garys_stuff How much are these going for over there? £11? (So under $15~). I know different kits in the range go from £6 ($8) and up.
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
@@crazylocha2515 most of them go for £11 (single seat fighter size), the Auster Antarctic will be £7, the SM.79 is on sale at £14.34 which is an absolute bargain.
@ronaldbyrne3320 Жыл бұрын
About £9 for this kit but the nostalgia factor is worth much more than that in my book. For a few hours I get to go back in time and revisit my younger days but this time without the glued fingers or spilled paint and with better decals ... ok, maybe just better decals.🤣 These Vintage Classics are fun because they’re simple to build, don’t have a kazillion parts and are relatively cheap, so no fear of messing up. You can really enjoy yourself building these.
