So fun to see this video. I owned an actual Bild Lilli doll and actually sold her to another collector. I have a story about it on my channel. I had no idea their were so many different clones made! Excellent video and you two are so much fun. 😊😃 Peggy Ann reminds me of Skipper!

I love you guys! I collect a lot of clones and I swear the combinations are infinite! Wendy was one of the first fashion dolls that was made in a black version. Mine is in the Wendy box with her original swimsuit, which is pink and white stripe. We ( my hubby and I) LOVE her. She is very rare. When I bought her over 20 years ago (I am only 35yo I swear! (wink! wink!)) she was an expensive purchase. Even though we hesitated, we bought her. We have yet to see another. One was offered recently on ebay -- in fair condition without clothes or box -- for $330. The Wendy doll was made by Uneeda. If a doll has the letter 'U' on it's head, it could be made by Uneeda. Uneeda also made 10-1/2" dolls, the dolls for which Mattel made its wooden furniture line predating Barbie. Thank you so much for your video on that line. 10-1/2" dolls have a special place in my heart. Uneeda Doll Company was located in Brooklyn. They made a Barbie Clone in 1962 marked with the full name of company and date. Her hair was styled in a ponytail. She was jointed at the neck shoulders, and hips. When seated, the legs spread into a Y shape. Her name was Suzette. In 1960 they also made a Suzette that had a molded hollow body and legs. Only the head and shoulders were jointed. Like their Wendy doll, the letter U was the marking on her head. Prior to Barbie, there were companies that made generic dolls and parts which could also be purchased by companies to assemble, dress, and market in their specific way. One of these companies was located in Long Island City, New York. Plastic Molded Arts Company (PMA) made a variety of plastic dolls and doll parts. Their contribution to the clone world was Debby. Here's where it gets tricky. Many companies made stock heads and parts that they would sell to other companies. The U head was made at Uneeda. However, the U head was also bought from Uneeda by PMA to make Debby. So a U on a clone doll's head does not necessarily mean the entire doll was made by Uneeda. I suspect that a stock head would be without face paint or hair, so those features might help distinguish differences, as well as how the body was assembled. For all intent and purposes, it is almost impossible to determine which U dolls were completely manufactured by Uneeda. Mitzi has a fascinating backstory. Initially, Barbie was not well received by retailers. However, some retailers took a chance and ordered her just the same. In true capitalist form, Mattel cut back on manufacturing her. As we know, Barbie was a hit. However, there was not enough product to meet the demand. Montgomery Ward, a prominent retailer at the time, commissioned the Ideal Toy Company out of Queens, New York to quickly create a similar doll to make up for the 1960 shortage of Barbies. By 1961 Barbie had a foothold on the teen doll market. That was the last year Ideal made Mitzi. In 1962, Ideal introduced Tammy. Yes, I live in NYC, specifically Queens.

The only clone that gave Barbie any real competition was American Character Tressy doll. For one year she almost outsold Barbie! I mentioned her in your Crissy video. Tressy had growing hair and a large beautiful wardrobe. A penthouse apartment, Beauty Salon and a Hat Shop where you could make all sorts of fancy creations for her. Tressy had a Skipper clone named Cricket who also had grow hair and a complete wardrobe. Tressy had a best friend named Mary Makeup with a specially treated face that you could apply her special make-up, wipe off and apply again! Later Tressy had the make-up feature too. Many cosmetic and hair styling sets were sold with mini curlers, pins, hair spray etc. Alot of fun to collect and some items are very rare. Tressy is gorgeous too you guys would love her! Look for her!
