I guess there are some things that even a guy like you has never seen.Was dreaming of a Decware tube power amp.I have very efficient speakers. I hear they have a 6 month waiting period. An Audiophiliac and others favorite amplifier. On a whim I type in Dynaco ST 35, a tube amp I have. The cat is out of the bag on it. Glorious praise from everywhere. And lo and behold, a reviewer thoroughly compared it to the Decware, & the Nelson Pass designed First Watt SIT 3, and guess what? The 1961 Dynaco ST 35 had the best sound quality of them all. It makes the 50 times more common ST 70 sound grainy and more. So sometimes you dream of something and you have something better than your dream already; right in your own home. Anyone who thinks tube amps don't have real tight bass; the ST35 will prove you wrong. What a big sound from such a little amp. The cd Hell Freezes over by The Eagles sounds like you are at the Live performance. All the other ST 35 amps I see on the world market, visually don't have the right color parts. I guess mine is the only one with original parts that I've seen. Some of this older stuff, not only competes; it surpasses.

You found gold my audio friend. The Dynaco ST 35 looks like a fine piece of kit. BTW… the Decware waiting list is closer to two and a half years. I’m expecting mine in a matter of a couple more months after ordering back in February of ‘22. Eagerly looking forward to my purchase, but had I known more about the Dynaco I may have gone that route. All the best!

There's one on Pittsburgh Craigslist which actually has original parts from someone who is a regular on there that does mail order. He has it discounted down to $600 because the fuse holder has some give when locking in the fuse. I wonder if the Dynaco ST 35 will end up going up to Marantz model 8 level in price appreciation. Probably a great investment. I have an amazing solid state power amp, but the ST 35 just fills the room with spatiality.more spatiality. Low level subtle detail comes through far better, and it makes string sections from even brighter CBS classical recordings sound so sumptuous & beautiful. More so than I thought possible. Then there's the warmth and bass tightness and definition. Best sounding midrange I ever owned too.

Thanks for the heads up! Currently have too much audio gear (as if there is such a thing) here already and it’s time to start moving some pieces on to new homes. Gotta love this stuff! Just a few more weeks and I can immerse myself in the glory of good old tube smoothness. Thanks again for the reply.

I compared my old ST 35 to a a Marantz 8 tube power amp once. More dynamics with the Marantz a bit, but the Dynaco had a more likeable overall sound somehow. It was a little darker sounding (in a good way) compared to the Marantz 8. They say the legendary Marantz 9 was darker sounding than the Marantz 8 also. Maybe in the same way? Some upper model vintage 1980s/90s integrated amps had pre in and main out inputs on the back, where you could use them as a power amp only. A few of them ate among the best power amps I have ever heard, and you would have never known it, using it as an integrated, going through the preamp section too. Some real sleepers out there, and very inexpensive.

JBL will always sell no matter what. I am surprised at how fast their vintage equipment goes when it's listed.

Owned a single G610B ca 1970. Never found another. Had one characteristic I've not seen elsewhere - when used mono (all I had) you could separate the performers in the space the speaker generated. Also, the Marantz 7C is the cabinet, the preamp is the "7".

Now I REALLY want to find some G610! :-)

@@stereoniche At Earlham College, ca 1970, I had a music system with a single G610B in a Jensen bass reflex cabinet made for it and a JBL D130 on the other side. The director of AV for the college asked me to drag the Jensen to the new auditorium where he wanted to see how much better it would sound with a horn-loaded speaker instead of the usual AR4x (a weird choice in my opinion; the music faculty had AR3a's). He had a first-generation video tape of a performance of a student performance of a Noh drama which we listened to. We both heard the same thing - all the sources played back through the mono AR4 came from the same plane, but through the G610B were distributed along a plane running back from the speaker. The only defect I heard (other than a bad crossover cap, which had turned into a diode) was the limited bass compared to a modern speaker (paper surround as was standard back in the 1950's). My primary speaker now is the University 315C Series 200, also a 15" coaxial but with a more modern midrange horn and a cloth suspension damped with silicone (?). It replaced 4 KLH Nine electrostats which I sold with their dB preamp/power amps since I couldn't afford repairs ($500 for shipping and inspection, no repairs, ca 1975). Best system I ever heard was Dave Berning's Tympani IV's using his preamp and amps plus some EQ. However, no way to duplicate that system.

I think I had read that some years ago, but as for consumer products, the only Solid State audio I have seen was not all that remarkable from what I recall.

Not sure your comment on Jbl l300 not very good picture part. Do you mean that might indicate poor condition of the speakers thus should be less than $5000? Thanks
@stereoniche
@stereoniche 5 ай бұрын
Not at all, but low quality pictures could not show physical condition very well and you may not be happy when received. My point is that if you are a seller of anything that has some significant value, you should strive to offer up the best pictures possible. The JBL pictures are not great compared to the other sales showcased in the video.

@@stereoniche 100% agree! I kind of feel the seller purposely hides some details. For a 50+ years vintage, it really doesn't hurt to show issues in front.

This was fun! I like to look for old hifi stuff at local thrift shops. Usually it's junk, but one time I found a Jensen SG300 Sigma Triax for $10 because it was in a junk home made box (3/8" plywood). There was also a Jensen Customode Reproducer that already had a sold sticker on it when I walked by. I ultimately didn't keep it, it went to someone who could appreciate it more than I would. I did make a video about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noe7epmdrq6Voas

Nice score! Nothing more fun that opening up a handmade box and finding something cool. The Sigma line was not inexpensive back then, so I am guessing the driver was pulled from something else years ago and put into this box, but the history is not really important.

Hi I’m a new subscriber and I think you’re channel is extremely well done 👍… I was watching a ADS L810 video you put out and I’m on the hunt for a pair of those or the 710’s.. Can you give me a reasonable price range for each if in good condition???? Thanks
@stereoniche
@stereoniche 5 ай бұрын
Welcome aboard and thanks for watching! Either model are desired and depending on where you find them, they will typically range from $250-400. When you go to check them out, take a paper towel tube (without the towels on it, just the tube), set the volume at a low level, then place the tube on your ear and the other end centered on the tweeter then the midrange. This isolates each driver enough so you can confirm they are working. The tweeters are most often the blown driver, so you will want to be sure to confirm they work because I do not believe Richard So can rebuild them any longer due to no more voicecoils in stock.

@@michaelsquires1218 That's cool, I have a JBL 4647 cabinet, with a replacement woofer. However, I'm trying to find another one to complete the set. I'll even put the stock JBL 2225 H 15 inch woofer in it again
