When I was about 4 years old I got a Betsy McCall doll. She was my favorite doll. When I was 8, her arms broke off. My mother took it and it just got forgotten...I was getting older after all. At Christmas, my aunt drew my name (I was 1 of 32 grandchildren so that's how it was done). She made a complete wardrobe for the doll while my mom threw in the doll which had visited a doll hospital and gotten a new wig and her arms reattached. It was my best Christmas of all. I am now 70 and she's still displayed in my room. Thanks to the internet, I was even able to replace missing shoes. It was nice seeing the process of restoration. Thank you for reminding me of such a happy holiday!

So my aunt gave a generic plastic-and-rubber doll a complete remake - gave her new beautyfully long brushed nylon yarn hair, a ballgown (made of tulle curtain), underwear and underskirt (from granny's old camisole)... Even earrings! And shoes made from bits of leather and painted with nail varnish! It was the poshest princess ever!

You really should use a clear primer on the face, do the makeup with pigments or pastel dust on a brush as well as watercolour pencils, and then seal it with a clear coat. The hair really could use some proper styling as well, but she came out pretty decent otherwise.

it is just like when you are in a toxic relationship vs when you break up your toxic ex
@avocato68573 жыл бұрын
Oh my- that's right! I used to have this classmate who has a toxic relationship with a problematic guy. He was so abusive and I think he hit her a couple of times. He didn't want her to dress nicely because other guys would look at her. So she would came to school with unbrushed hair, baggy clothes etc. One day, she broke up with him and appeared at school all dressed nicely, brushed hair, make-up and happy attitude. She had a scar on her lip (he probably hit her :/ ) but she seemed happy. Just like this doll.

I am glad to see you expanding beyond just restorations by doing funny comments and additional material (such as the stop motion animation of the doll). It seems that at least in the Diecast restoration community, very few are doing more than that, which makes that area of restorations boring and stagnant.
