Back to the days when Doncaster had one of the most interesting fleets in the country.

Note the rare Seddon Pennine single deckers, Few fleet buyers took the bus, not entirely successful as a design, , none preserved

As an art student at the time - I thought the classic red livery with addition of purple band looked very modern. Now I'd prefer the original! But both are better than the abomination of many current liveries with their pointless graphics and lurid interiors. (All opinions are my own!)

The open rear door buses were great, you could jump on and on and off at a junction. When I was a kid in the early 1970's it cost 2p to get into town or I could save 50% by walking a couple of stops, about 100 yards, and catching it there

Doncaster bus fares were pennies, not subsidised , the buses still made a profit which returned to the Town Council

@@cyclist3969 Born and grew up in Donny and the cheap fares, 2p for child and 10p adult meant buses were always full at peak times and even during weekdays they were busy.. Last bus home at night was also usually packed.

2p to town. Subsidised bus fares meant great weekends when we were kids. Cigarette smoke and lots of graffiti, so different now.
