This set looks and sounds awesome. My first kit was a Fibes Crystalite kit that included a 18” X 16” bass drum, 12” X 8” rack tom, & a 14”X 14” floor tom that had Ludwig mounting hardware. Unfortunately I never had the Fibes snare that came with it originally. When I traded it for my 80s 5 piece Pearl kit, I left a 2005 PDP 14” X 6 1/2” steel shell snare with it and kept my pure white wood shell Early 1980s Maxwin by Pearl snare that I had gotten with the Fibes kit because it sounds good and matches up well with my 1980s Pearl kit. Although the Fibes kit sounded really good, I felt limited by it and felt like it would be easier & more cost effective to expand the Pearl kit.

Nice find! I love fibes and tend to scoop them up whenever I see them, if they aren’t crazy money.. those ones are very nice.. Usually FT leg mounts are broken, Bd spurs are missing, and ball/socket tom holders are broken.
@shawnsdrumcave10 ай бұрын
thanks! i've noticed parts for them are $$ i found a sent of T rods for a reasonable price compared to others, luckily this was pretty complete. one floor tom bracket did have the key head screw broken off but i was able to get it out and replace it with a one i had kicking around. i have an idea what i'd want for it but what's your opinion on value/what it's "worth"? cool drums for sure, i may hang on to them but space is pretty tight right now lol thanks for watching!

@@shawnsdrumcave value on Fibes stuff is always weird. I see nice five piece kits for sale in the $1200 range and they sit for a long time without anybody buying them. on the other hand LUDWIG vistalite stuff sells like hotcakes because it’s more popular…. But the Ludwig stuff wasn’t really made as nice and cracks easier than Fibes do in my opinion and many others. For now, I’ve just been taking advantage of the fact that you can find cool restorable Fibes stuff on the cheap… And hoping that someday it becomes super valuable/Collectable

@shawnsdrumcave10 ай бұрын
Thanks! Not sure they're fiberglass are the same but I would think they are. I only use one rack tom and typically use a snare stand, I just set it up like this for the video. Honestly the tom mounts make me nervous, this set survived 40+ yrs, last thing I want is to be the one to crack something 🤣

I'm in the Methuen Ma. area, and see that your local. Have some vintage kits I've restored myself, with quite the story that goes with them. To long to type and share here. Holy crap! What a difference and what a great find. Even some cool history associated with it. Very cool man. So the plastic blade you used to scrape off the adhesive residue didn’t scratch the shell? The fact that they’re undersized I think is cool in that it should lend itself to allowing the heads to vibrate freely, like sonor shells. Tympani like, big sound when tuned up in the sweet spot. Really cool brother!!
@shawnsdrumcave11 ай бұрын

You know you can bring heads back to nearly brand-new with a heat gun? It's a proven method. Plastic shrinks, dents disappear, the head rings like as if it was put on yesterday.

I've tried that in the past, it does work but these weren't really dented just a lot of dust and stick marks lol imo they have a lot of life left in them.
