Great video! I thought, oh here we go again, just another wannabe so called watchmaker guy on youtube making a video doing watches for views with poor watch service work and lack of high quality tools but after 10 minutes in the video, you are the best hobbyist I have seen on youtube. You take your watch service/repair very seriously, you got good set of hand skills with handing with watch parts and you carried out your work like as a professionally with care, attention, taking your time, and not rushing it , also you use a mainspring winders tool and glass press and so on, you mentioned that you are hobbyist at the end of the video, which is great, unlike many others on youtube. Which is refreshing actually. I'm not easily impressed but you impress me and it's very rare that I watched the whole video. You got yourself a subscriber from me . Well done :)

Thank you I very much appreciate that. I'm looking to improve my skill, I still have a lot to learn. I just try and go about any service with respect for the people that that did the work before me. I'm a long way away from the level of skill I've seen you demonstrate on your own channel. Again thanks for the kind words.

Well you have to start somewhere and all are not blessed with buckets of money to buy expensive tools which have probably been made in China anyway.

I must say, you are very didactic while explaining your proceedings. You take time to explain your errors which very few of your colleagues actually do. Your editing, the use of microscopic views and several cameras at the same time are simply brilliant. A treat!

Hello David, I am still are a fan of your video’s and your honesty about your learning process! A few tips: Perhaps you will have to reconsider the oiling between the plates (so mutch). Under the ratchet wheel about half the amount just on the scrubbed off places and under the crown wheel just in the hole. The barrel arbor has to get some on the collet on top and bottom before closing the lid. After closing the barrelbridge, All other in between plates lubricating I would not recommend, just attracts dirt and will become sticky over time. Check this barrel arbor on excessive play, very important for the amplitude (getting the power cleanly in the train of wheels). I saw also that you have put the pallet fork in the cleaning basket with some “heavy” other components. Please when you use a watc cleaning machine, sort this type of delicate parts out and put the separate in a basket. Or else they will bump into each other and get damaged when the baskets are rotating. Again, keep up making the good video’s! Greetings from NL, Peter

Excellent video! I love the closeups in the circles. Im definitely watching your other videos. The case should have had a crown tube installed! The stem was a good length before you cut it. The tube keeps dust out & helps keep water out as it presses against the gasket in the crown. You can get boxes of case tubes on eBay for cheap. You just find the right size & press it in .
@Saving-Time
@Saving-Time 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback I'm happy you enjoyed the video, to my knowledge this case never had a crown tube the stem actually came from a watch 2mm larger with the same movement, however that one was beyond saving unfortunately. I will double check the crown tube I could well be wrong and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.
@troynasello2085
@troynasello2085 Жыл бұрын
@@Saving-Time ok. I may be wrong about that, but that would be odd. If there's no case tube then the crown should have a "nub" that fits in the case hole to prevent dust intrusion at least. The hole looks way bigger than the crown "nub". I've just never seen an unprotected system like that. The hole in the case is really big compared to the crown so I'm convinced there should be a case tube.

English isn't my first language, but I've been taught that antique usually refers to 100 or more years old and less than 100 guides to vintage. I'm just referring to your mainspring winding tools set. Otherwise, it's a great video and good editing and calm and helpful commenting.
@Saving-Time
@Saving-Time Жыл бұрын
Antique means old and of value. This business of being 100 years old is just something antique dealers say; in truth, the actual English definition is just old. They used to say it was not an antique if it was made after 1830, but yes, it's just an antique dealer using the word for cataloguing items. Vintage means old and, importantly, typical of the period, so regardless of what the internet says, I would not use the words to define the age of something in years. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

@@Saving-Time one of my cases is for an alarm watch (Memvox model I forget the maker) with a GF case one of the stem holes is corroded out to about tripple size, figured to fill in the missing area with some gold solder and then clean it up with fine sand paper and perhaps a small file to get the hole just right. Unfortunately all the jewelers I've known over the years are retired.

Generally when you see wear marks under the ratchet wheel, it's a good chance the bushing or bushings are worn and need attention. Always check for excessive side shake as it will never run great when worn.

Excellent work! I was wondering if you were going to realize when you were putting the keyless works together that the setting lever wasn’t on 😂. I’ve been hesitant to seek out Doxa watches, but I think you’ve convinced me there’s nothing to be afraid of, so long as the whole movement is in there haha

I put the setting leaver back and then did not put it into the edit. I only noticed when I was watching it back on KZbin. I was hoping no one would notice lol well spotted. The older Doxas are good, modified ETA movements for the most part, nice looking watches. Avoid the stuff from the 70s like the plague or at least I would. And yes try and get one with a whole movement :D

Yes, I would like to see these hands re-lumed and a full case restoration. It is a beauty. 👍🏼 eBay is always a risk when buying watches to fix and there are plenty of liars out there. Luckily I've only been tricked a couple of times and by English sellers funnily enough. All I do is give them really nasty feedback reviews and watch them scream about the injustice of it all. 😂 They know they're selling scrap and not worthy of repair, this is why they are selling it on in the first place.

@Saving-Time
@Saving-Time 2 жыл бұрын
Most movements are marked, a lot of the time under the balance wheel on the mainplate. I looked up the markings on www.ranfft.de/ great site btw. I've also used a reverse google image search to try and identify movements and sometimes you can find the info from the brands back catalogue. In this case i had another Doxa with what looks like an identical movement that was actually marked ETA cal. 1147. www.ranfft.de/ though is a lifesaver for all sorts of info. Hope you enjoyed the video.
