Excellent work for first effort on that dial. There is a lot to be said for the aesthetics of something that was hand made. Even classic Rolls Royce and Ferrari bodies did not match exactly from one side to the other, because they were hand made by artisans. The ability to create something that we dreamed up has nearly become a lost art. Most things we use today were stamped out on a machine, 100's or 1000's at a time. But what you have there is something that there is only one of, with the marks of your workmanship on it. I like it!

Thank you! Your video answered my question about the strange thing where the regulator normally sits. My watch fitted with the incastar is made by Ernest Borel. The movement doesn't have much by way of markings, having been one of a batch given as prizes for mine safety awards in the '60's, but it's a quality automatic movement in an attractive case, and I intend to get it working. Sadly the quality of the engraving of the inscription on the case back is atrocious, so I will remove it.

Good job! A pie dish, I had to think for a minute. That would look nice. Was the hairspring all right? The coils didn’t look to be spaced too well. Again, great job.

Great stuff and very informative. I'm going to have a go at this myself. Which laser did you use? You have my sympathy on the translation of wife-ese. "I don't want any chips" translates to "I'll have your chips when you get them".

I'm familiar with that one too, you get better and better at decoding the lingo with time :) I used a cheap small diode laser from AliExpress. Good luck with the dial project!

Honestly, the best thing for springs (yoke, shock, etc) is to use a plastic sheet and maneuver the spring in place. It contains any of the pinging and any of the danger.

Hello old friend I joined your site where you were doing a Czech watch I bought one and can't remember the name but wonderful. I asked are you in UK. Your talent is outstanding ash I think you make a few mistakes to keep us on our toes. The 3 d printer is a Great tweak beautiful dial. I've watched a bit/ a lot... this week. I love your comments especially what you prefer like your straight mechanical winding. I agree. Good for you... Keep up the great work. John Australia 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘

I agree with everybody here that your work is amazing! But I dare to guess that you may like like to hear remarks that don't scream "flattery". My first remark is about your screwdriver tips - they are polished out of shape. If they were first polished and then the working edges precisely ground, I would be much more impressed. The second remark is again about polishing; this time the little rusted screw head. You could just polish the front of the crew,or leave it as it is. The polishing destroyed the angularity of the part, so characteristic to this movement. It looks out of place. After saying that, I still stand behind my first sentence.

Good question. I used to buy it directly from a farm here in the Czech Republic but they went out of business so I'm looking for a new supplier. Most of the stuff for sale online is shiny and in my opinion matte looks much better on straps.

Thank you, I used something from the local art store because I didn't have time to wait for delivery but I would recommend the brushes from Rosemary & Co www.rosemaryandco.com/ They make great quality brushes which makes a huge difference when you're painting so it's worth paying a bit extra.

I was watching watch repair videos for awhile and believe it is very simple. I guess anybody can learn to repair watches in one hour or so. I found broken watch at home and ordered tools from ebay ($10). Important thing is to hold 2-3 springs, which can fly away (or in your eye). About this rusty watch: spray penetrant, take apart, clean each part, replace whatever needs to be replaced(if you can find replacement). Thanks for the video.

This is just me but showing me how to restore a watch with $1000s of dollars of equipment isn't a big help. Your videos are a more down to earth approach. I am working to get into the repairing of watch movements. Your video helps. Very good looking movement! You can get copper solder that has a low melting point to work with your soldering iron.

Hi David, are you still making dials? I just got a hand guilloche machine, would you like a go with it and make a dial I would love to but it's a bit out my comfort zone I'm still learning to service movements, message if you do would make a great video and then I would know what to do I think it only makes circles like on sub dials but if you of set think you'd get that diamond pattern 😃
@Saving-Time21 күн бұрын
Apologies for the late reply Andy, I'm having a break from dials at the moment but if it's an open offer I might take you up on it in the future. I love guilloche dials.

Hi Saving Time, sincere apologies if I'm blind and missed it. I couldn't find the name of the main spring winders you used. Have you asked Cousin where the deployant that you bought was made? China😂
@Saving-TimeАй бұрын
Yes, I'm not sure if you know this but lots of things of various quality are made in china. I use Cousins because I know they stock a quality one. It saves me having to buy 30 different types of the same deployant from different Chinese manufacturers to find a good one.
