Let's test out another Vintage Gadget! Today's video we are testing a 1960's Compact Electra Cleaning System vacuum cleaner. Let's see if this 60 year old vacuum still works. Special thanks to my cousin Kristan for sending it my way.

I have to admit it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but practically speaking those robot vacuums are by far superior. Just turn it on and it does all the work by itself, leaving the person free to do other things, and when finished, it goes back to its rechargeable station. You just can't beat the convenience from a hands free operation.

I’ve never seen a vacuum with its own storage! I love that. There is never enough room in the closet and I don’t have a pantry. What a great idea…and doubles as seating! Fabulous!

It used to be common. My mother bought a Kirby in the mid 70s and it came in a box. She also had a blue box even into the 90s that was an old vacuum box her mother had from the 60s

As a vacuum collector, this makes me so happy someone is using a vintage machine to clean daily! ALSO as a tip: this machine has a cloth hose which are notorious for leaking after many years. You can buy “plastic dip” which people will use in cars. You can spray this in the hose while it’s hanging up and it will coat the inside and stop these leaks. 😊

Yes I’m thinking she’s right about it being a later production of an early model, including the carton with that style starburst. I have an original baumritter chair that lasted from the early 50’s to late 60’s and mine has the flathead screws that identify with early 50’s but nothing else was ever changed.

We bought this vacuum new in the 1970s. We always called it the green pig. I love the custom box that is 100% not offered with the vacuum. Somebody really loved the vacuum a lot. Unless it was a salesman’s box

Nice find for your vintage home ! Great look and love the box. I use a vintage 1960s Electrolux for my everyday cleaner on everything but rugs. Had to replace that woven cloth hose with a plastic one for good suction, but I saved the old hose for history sake.

Beautiful cats ❤ New sub. These older machines that have cloth hoses, the hoses have a tendency to leak, because the rubber inside deteriorates with time. The only cure is to replace the hose with a new vinyl hose, and keep the old one for display

Tristar still makes that design. You may be able to purchase additional and brand new accessories including a floor polisher and power head. The ‘green pig’ would then become a beast! On a side note…you have a stunning set of teeth!

We had the exact same vacuum cleaner when I was a kid. My Dad named it the green pig. LOL Funny thing is we lived in Anaheim CA when I was growing up. That vacuum worked great. It seems like we got ours before 1968. I thought it was some time around the early to mid 60s.

I've had a late 30's or early 40's electrolux it was the bomb and it had a cloth bag. Also had a few mid to late 60's elctrolux's. I love that you you can reverse the flow. Only real complaint is they tend to hit the corners on your walls if your not vigilante with them.

I found a 1953 model of the same vacuum. It looks the same. You are correct it came from an earlier model. I also found one from 1964. So your vintage vacuum is just a newer sister to a long family line. Enjoyed your video immensely. I grew up in the 1950's and 60's. Always fun to call up fond memories. Great little vacuum. I love all the vintage stuff as well. One thing for certain these vintage vacuums are much better quality and if cared for can go for a long time. Maybe you could pick yourself up a vintage Hoover upright from a thrift store and use that on your carpets. I know it would mean having two vacuums in the house. Just a thought. I love that you have your home done up with that vintage look. If you lived in my neighborhood I would give you a wringer washer for your Monday wash days. Keep up your great videos. f

Super cute! We have a Vintage Filter Queen that we use for all hard surfaces and Hardwood floors. We use a newer vacuum with a beater bar for all of our rugs. They make an attachment you can buy that has a small beater bar in it that works wonders for Animal hair on furniture! I was able to retrofit it for my filter queen. Ask your vacuum shop if they have something like that they could sell you.

In the late 50s and early 60s canister vacuum cleaners where not very efficient. But the fact that you have the economy set with all the attachments is so cool and in the original box. It's a keeper. I have a central vacuum system in my house and a Bissell upright. My wife and i find that the the central is great for the wood floors but garbage on the carpeted areas, the upright is great on the carpeted floors and firniture such as the couches and beds but is crap on the wood floors. Vacuum cleaners have there special areas of cleaning things. In my garage i have my industrial vacuum for wood shavings, metal shavings and water suction. I like your video and really enjoyed seeing that new/old vacuum cleaner. 👍🍻

Hi ! Your vac is adorable ! I have a vintage one as well, mine is the aqua blue electrolux. I love it ! I love vintage vac .. I have used a modern dyson at a friend's house and it worked nice, but typically I've found that vintage just works better .. they don't make em like they used to !

My Mother won one just like it on a TV quiz show in Australia in 1964. It was called Pinnock Compact in Salmon Pink they were manufactured locally at the factory in Adelaide South Australia.

Super cool i have a super rare vacuum cleaner from Mercedes from 1949 and i use it sometimes because mij home is also in 1950s style i watch also television on a 1954 Philips tv al i love your video's greetings from the Netherlands

I collect vintage vacuums, most of them being Electrolux and Kirby, most likely the rubber liner of the woven hose is breaking down and causing leaks. If you block the end of the hose and the motor doesn't strain or change tones then it most likely needs a new hose. If you want to keep it "period correct" you can get a new hose which most likley won't match for when you want to vacuum and keep the current hose for show. I do that with my Electroluxes. Great find.

I was born in 65 and I remember my parents having that vacuum cleaner, same color too. Though ours did not have the large cleaning heads with colored covers. Also think they did not use the paper filter. Could have been designed in the 50s.and still been selling in the 60s.

when I worked at the vacuum store and those woven cloth hoses on Electrolux and these old models like TriStar, they always leak when they're older, you can tell you have a really bad leak if you put your hand over the end of the hose and the motor doesn't go any faster than you have a major leak, It's an easy fix you just have to buy another hose

Love the cats. I have the same vacuum cleaner, its old but works great. I added a power electric head to mine. If you look at were the hose is there should be a place to plug a power electric head to it.

Hi lacy the hose to your vacuum is a cloth hose which becomes porous a replacement hose is easy to replace on that vacuum that unit has a ton of suction but old hose is leaking air the new hose would give you the full suction n the rug nozzle will work better too the new hose will be more flexible hope this helps you enjoy! 😊

love it! I worked for Kirby vacuum for about 2 weeks around 2005 (I was 20). my mom bought one, still has it. therefore I love this video haha. door to door sales is quite vintage as well. I am sure Kirby still sells this way too. Something about a fancy vacuum like this with all the attachments and carrying cases is so cool. PS my mom bought allllll the extra's with her Kirby too, she got a deep discount, so she went all out. told me how she had a salesperson show her the Kirby in the 80s and always wanted one. 20 years later it works just as well and is still in great condition. its great but and looks vintage bc thats Kirby;s style, but your baby blue vacuum is so gorgeous and compact. thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh, that vacuum is the cutest! I have to admit when it comes to cleaning floors I try to make things as easy as possible for myself so I have a robot vacuum that also mops and I love it, and I also have an upright vacuum cleaner which comes in handy very much because I have two small children and there's always crumbs everywhere, lol. We do own a classic vacuum but I very rarely use it because I hate how heavy and clumsy it is and how the cord gets stuck everywhere, however if it looked like yours I would definitely enjoy using it more! And by the way, this hairstyle, the blonde hair, light make-up and pastel colours look dreamy on you!

this might sound a little weird but im a vacuum collector lol. some of the best upright vacuums came out of the 60s. specifically the hoover brand. they beat the carpets really well and thats the main advantage of them. this vacuums great i like how it comes with a storage box like an old electrolux. this vacuum was sold under multiple different brands but i havent seen one with a box yet lol. one of the most popular versions of this cleaner is known as the tristar

Love it! I’m seen that model twice in tan at different thrift stores. They were asking at least $60 if not more. We live on a farm and they would dump their garbage in a big junk pile in the woods. As a kid I found this same turquoise one. I just used it as a seat around a campfire for awhile 😄 my dad got rid of it without me knowing. For a long time I used to collect vintage vacuums. My collection is smaller these days, but have Hoovers both tank vacuum and 4 uprights from the 70s and 80s. I also 2 Electrolux Tank Vacuums from the ‘50s! One of was my grandma’s and then I found the same model that I rescued from the dump years ago. Both work great! I need to replace the roller brushes on some of my uprights, but they work well
