you know, these days its pretty simple to build your own midi controller. midi functionality is pretty much built right into the popular project single board computers now, some wireless, most through USB, and even the standard 5 pin midi connector. ive seen many people build their own controllers, from the origin of the dicer to the midi fighter. why cant we take the potentiometers of these vintage mixers and put a digital signal to them that can be read by our computers? if youre brave enough, you can even add new buttons knobs and faders to the mixer, giving you the ability to do new things that the creators of these relics never thought would be possible...i dont see how this would be impossible to do. getting rid of the boards may create space for other things, too. like maybe a hard drive, or a small audio interface DAC, allowing you the ability to plug into the mixer like you've always done. i had my behringer djx700 open once to clean it when i first got it, and there were like 3 or 4 circuit boards stacked on top of each other, but other than that, it was empty space. I'm not sure if i could do these kinds of mods to a working mixer, but one that has no hope of being functional again? absolutely...
