Vintage Hallicrafters SX-100 Mark 1B Shortwave Receiver Restoration: Tuning Capacitors and Apparatus

In this episode the main tuning and bandspread variable capacitors are re-installed on top of the chassis. The apparatus that connects the tuning dials, the tuning knobs and the tuning capacitors is installed, and the steel dial cord for the bandspread capacitor is also installed. The upper chassis is readied for DC resistance testing with everything connected up.

This is a great series of posts on this Hallicrafters six-100. I have two of this model. One is totally like new with tubes marked Hallicrafters. The other radio I am going to fix enough to use. CAL

Thank you for your kind comments, are they Mark 1, 1B or II? Look on the back of the Notch filter box. You could get away with just re-capping the "like new" one to get it fully operational. Even a recap would do little to change alignment. Some of the caps (at the sensitivity, selectivity and power controls) are very difficult to get to without tearing down the controls.

You may want a pair of hemostats and some scotch tape to act as a third hand for that dial string work. I find they come in very handy for helping to hold tension on strings while my hands are attempting to get around pulleys, etc.
