That are the blades of the compressor. There are several reasons for that: 1. Easy Installation and removal 2. As the engine spins faster the centrifugal forces will push them outwards with hundreds of G's, reducing the vibrations 3. It leaves space for thermal expansion For the model you dont need any of that obviously, but in a commercial airliner thats another story

3:00 if you wonder what these tubes are for: This is called Low Pressure Turbine Active/Passive Clearance Control (LPTACC/LPTPCC). All these tubes have small holes on the inside and they blow cool air at the LPT Case. This is done to ensure a small tip clearance between the turbine blades and the case to achieve a higher efficiency. The difference between active and passive is the presence of a dedicated valve (active: there is a LPTACC Valve - passive: no valve). This is a nice model for educational purpose however I'd prefer a two shaft model (obviously more complex but also more accurate). Thank you for sharing!

JQ90! You’re a legend in the world of model engineering and I cannot and will not apportion any of the blame to you on this matter but when you spun that engine with the little motion wheel, it sounded heinous! As if everything within was rubbing up against all the rest of the parts that make up a whole. I know it’d be a massive amount of work, but I genuinely believe you could have done a better job of building an engine if you made it entirely yourself. There’s something amiss with this unit for it to be grinding like that, I hope you send it back to them. Preferably through one of their windows :) :) (I’m only being silly, kids! It’s never big, nor clever ((like a moron dwarf 😀)) to return products via refenestration!).
