I went into my local music store to buy a fender bass Mexican. I think it was about 700€ the guy in the shop said look I can sell you that no problem but if I was you I'd get the vintage. Less than half the price and just as good. I know nothing about basses but I'm enjoying learning on it and it left me with a few euros to get an amp.

Here in the UK where JHS Vintage has been around a lot longer than the US these guitars, for those in the know. are considered as players guitars. Basically, good quality fit and finish and decent pickups for a reasonable price. Second hand they an absolute steal!

Tony smith yeah! Thanks for the info! For sure they are newer to us in the states. They are severely underrated.

I pieced together a parts jazz bass and used a new pair of Wilkinson pickups. Maybe an unpopular option but playing the jazz bass with these pickups and a .60 pick sounds better than my P bass for punk and rock.
@LanceShelton3 жыл бұрын
Wilkinson pickups are underrated for sure.

Bagged one last month and I can't fault it. Maple neck and fretborad with dark block inlays is a real head turner at gigs.

Hi Lance. That is indeed a nice bass. I have one too. Mine was really noisy with one pickup on, but I cured that with a proper shielding job. Made some other modifications too, but in essence it is a solid good sounding bass. Have fun with it!

Bert Buikema yeah I’ve been considering doing it. It definitely would help with the noise. Thank you!

By noise are you referring to single cool hum or a buzzing sound ?. Mine buzzes a lot when not touching the strings. It's rather annoying.

I have one. Very good sound. Good pickups, keys and bridge. But the neck needs to be set up too often. It's not so stable. And the fretboard is sloppy done. Can't set up enough good action because of fret buzz.

MM as in Marcus Miller or Musicman?

For Marcus Miller, you would need to add a preamp, and probably use different pickups that would work with the preamp. For Musicman, you would need to find a way to install a Musicman pickup in the bass.

What pickups would you recommend to upgrade it (not Fender)?
@LanceShelton8 ай бұрын
Good question. There are a lot of different pickups out there and I'm still discovering options. Some brands I've thought about are: Tesla pickups, Nordstrand, Delano, Kent Armstrong, Bartolini, Seymour Duncan, Aguilar... You can watch videos of pickups that people have already made demos for. Check out the different companies and what they provide and see what sounds best to you!

@@LanceShelton Thx. Any recommendations for a 5 string PJ?
@LanceShelton4 жыл бұрын
Christoph Ruepprich depends on your budget. What’s your price range?
@cruepprich4 жыл бұрын
@@LanceShelton $1k. I'm interested in the Sire P7 five string. Didn't care for the Yamaha's too much. One of my faves is the Lakland DJ 5, albeit it's a Jazz.
@LanceShelton4 жыл бұрын
Christoph Ruepprich yeah Sire is really good! Also, there is a company called Tribe, they have a decently priced bass called the SF. It has a p/Musicman pickup, but you can change the selectors to give you Jazz options between 60s and 70s j positions. Also, BassMods makes a dope 5 string PJ. If you are interested in trying something less expensive, there is a company called Harley Benton that makes a bass similar to the Tribe company that I mentioned earlier and they also make a 5-string PJ. You can look all of them up and see what interests you. I’m sure there are others, but these are ones that I’m more familiar with outside of the ones you mentioned

Who’s bass is this modeled after? I know for instance the fret less vintage icon is styled after Jaco’s. I love this bass aesthetically to death
@LanceShelton5 жыл бұрын
William Woche yeah I really like the look on this one too. I almost got the Jaco Model instead, but went with this one because it was already fretted and it made this video easy to demo since it’s a stock model and perfect as is. I’m not sure who it is modeled after. It may have just been a cool idea they came up with.
