@@scoutman66 It’s just a glimpse in time. I’m a child of former Confederates and we realize that it wasn’t good even for us. After the Civil War A LOT of former Confederates, who kept in mind were poor homesteaders turned to crime. Literal Bandits and Highwaymen like in a fantasy RPG or Fallout. In fact if the Confederacy had just been abolished, you could argue the slaves would be in the same spot but the end of slavery would’ve lead to a steady income for workers which would’ve made sure we had a strong economy. But it would’ve meant less (not none) money for the elites so of course that’s gotta go.

I like how these are the reverse of the Wilkins Coffee and Claussens Bread ads. In those two the muppet supporting the brand is harming someone else for rejecting that brand, but in these Southern Bread ads the muppet promoting the brand is the one putting themselves in harm's way.

Jim Henson was born and raised in Mississippi. His family moved to the Washington DC area when he was 12. So he probably had a southern accent as a kid.

Im assuming this was the sixties so while it’s prejudiced and we shouldn’t condone it, this was the norm and people didn’t exactly see it the way we do now. Should jim be alive today I’m sure he might’ve regretted writing those kinds of jokes.
