@imma-icon368512 күн бұрын
@SuperPrestogamer Utah, I get that. I'm a member as well, but from SC. grew up in a small branch my whole life and served my mission in Utah, I'm still active, got married in the temple, and have a small family, and it always depends on the people. It's never fair to group anyone as good or bad because each person is different in everything. We all got mistakes and sins we are working through, so it's important to give grace as much as you can in this world.
@Generalsolid8 күн бұрын
As one who grew up on the California/Mexican border, you learn your faith quickly and defend it regularly, but our members were very accepting in a community that didn't care for us. Acceptance is less a religious problem and more a problem of whoever the dominant demographic is. But I lived in Utah for a time and left it due to high-priced homes and a lot of members that have embraced worldly indulgences. Didn't want to raise my daughter there. Eastern AZ has plenty of members, but they do much better with other faiths.

You don't know the definition of heresy, do you?

@@danthemankhanyeah, but definitionally heresy is any denomination which doesn’t follow the rules established by the Nicene Creed. Even if you’ve never heard of it, if you say “I’m an X Christian” it probably follows it. Usually ones like Mormonism or Jehova’s Witnesses or Unitarian Universalists or Christopagans aren’t referred to blanketly as Christian even by themselves sometimes. I’m no longer any kind of Christian, but to be institutionally Christian you kinda have to believe in the Trinity, believe in Jesus (the whole mythos from sacrificing for us to returning to having not been created iirc), and be monotheistic. If your denomination differs from those three in any way, it’s considered a heresy and not actual Christianity. Not saying that as a judgmental statement, they just aren’t part of institutional Christianity, they’re technically their own religions. Kinda like how there’s nothing wrong with lions and house cats, and while they look very very similar and behave similarly, one of these has to be called a member of Felinae and the other is Pantherinae. No matter how much your cat looks like a house cat, if it roars it has to be considered a Panther. No matter how Christianly and loving your church is, if it’s nonmonotheistic or doesn’t believe in the Trinity, it cannot be a member of Institutional Christianity.

I am far from a religious person, but I will say this was pretty accurate. Particularly the scene poking fun at the Pentecostals. NGL though, the gibberish tongue stuff (in addition to the seizures and all that) is why I think of them as the most abnormal denomination.

@@NewDealChief You publicly admit that you serve idols and don't want to change anything? Are Catholic beliefs and practices biblical? The question that concerns every church and its practices should be, "Is this biblical?" If a teaching is biblical (taken in context), it should be accepted. If it is not, it should be rejected. God is more interested in whether a church is doing His will and obeying His Word than whether it can trace its lineage back to the apostles of Jesus. Jesus was very concerned about the Word of God being rejected to follow traditions of men (Mark 7:7). Traditions are not inherently wrong...there are some good and valuable traditions. To reiterate, the concern should be whether a doctrine, practice or tradition is biblical. How then does the Catholic Church compare to the Word of God? Salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is regenerated through baptism and maintained through the Catholic sacraments, except through a wilful act of sin that destroys the sanctified state of grace. The Bible teaches that we are saved by grace, which we receive through simple faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that good works are the result of a changed heart worked out in salvation (Ephesians 2:10; I Corinthians 5:17) and through the fruit of new life in Christ (John 15). Assurance of salvation: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is not guaranteed or certain. 1 John 5:13 says that the reason for writing 1 John was so that believers could be ASSURED of their salvation. Good works: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that Christians are saved by meritorious works (beginning with baptism), and that salvation is maintained by good works (receiving the sacraments, confessing sins to a priest, etc.). The Bible teaches that Christians are saved by grace through faith, completely apart from works (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 3:10-11; Romans 3:19-24). Baptism: In the New Testament, baptism ALWAYS comes AFTER saving faith in Christ. Baptism is not the reason for salvation; it is faith in the gospel that saves (1 Corinthians 1:14-18; Romans 10:13-17). The Roman Catholic Church teaches the regeneration of infants through baptism, a practice never found in Scripture. The only possible reference to the baptism of infants that the Roman Catholic Church can point to is that the entire household of the jailer in Philippi was baptised, as recorded in Acts 16:33. However, the context never mentions infants. Acts 16:31 explains that salvation comes by faith. Paul addressed the whole household in verse 31, and the whole household believed (verse 34). This passage only supports the baptism of those who have already believed, not infants. Prayer: The Roman Catholic Church teaches Catholics not only to pray to God, but also to petition Mary and the saints for their prayers. Contrary to this, Scripture teaches us to pray to God alone (Matthew 6:9; Luke 18:1-7). Priesthood: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that there is a difference between priests and "commoners," where the New Testament teaches that all believers hold the priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). Sacraments: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that a believer is filled with grace by receiving the sacraments. This teaching is not found anywhere in Scripture. Confession: The Roman Catholic Church teaches that, unless the believer is incapacitated, the only way to be forgiven of sins is through confession to a priest. In contrast, Scripture teaches that confession of sins is to be made to God alone (1 John 1:9). Mary: The Roman Catholic Church teaches, among other things, that Mary is the Queen of Heaven, perpetual virgin and co-redemptrix who ascended to heaven. In the Holy Scriptures she is portrayed as an obedient, faithful servant of God who became the mother of Jesus. None of the other attributes mentioned by the Roman Catholic Church have their basis in the Bible. The notion that Mary is co-redemptrix and another mediator between God and man is not only extra-biblical (found only outside of Scripture), but is also unbiblical (contrary to Scripture). Acts 4:12 declares that Jesus is the only Saviour. 1 Timothy 2:5 proclaims that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. Many other examples could be listed here. These points alone clearly identify the Catholic Church as unbiblical. Every Christian denomination has traditions and practices that are not explicitly based on the Bible. This is the reason why Scripture must be the standard for Christian belief and practice. The Word of God is always true and trustworthy. The same cannot be said about church traditions. Our guideline should be: "What does the Bible say?" (Romans 4:3; Galatians 4:30; Acts 17:10). 2 Timothy 3:16-17 proclaims, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly prepared for every good work".

@@EmptyMan000 ok, I'm not going to say if Calvinism is right or wrong...but objectively Calvinism believes we all deserve hell But God give grace to some ( the elect/chosen) regardless of if they disserve it or not, that's what grace is giving mercy even when someone doesn't deserve it ( so it's not really about who deserves what )
