This is a cool video. I had watched it all the way through. And then I realized something when I did. I possess my own 1970, custom, NBC-TV Neve. I used there for 12 years. When it was 10 years old or so. And remarkably. My bid was awarded. They must've been out of their minds. It was far too low. However. The 8078, was not my favorite. But this one was changed up. With more than what was, mentioned.. And I think. One of the most important factors. If not the most important. Okay okay so what? They showed these guys from Vintage King. Expertly repairing, restoring refurbishing that 8078. Until I realized. What op amps they were installing. This is a game changer for that console as an 8078. I could plainly see. This particular module. Appeared to me. This was no 1073 Module. This look like a 1081. Because the op amp they were plugging in. Was a BA-438, discrete transistor, operational amplifier. That's the wrong op amp. What a ripoff! Instead of putting in the proper BA-638 and BA-640, integrated circuit chip based,, op amps. They stuck in those older ones that use those older style fangled, transistors. And no integrated circuit chip. What were they thinking? They were thinking extremely clearly. Those are the op amps from my earlier Neve. And they are unbelievably fabulous.. Because they are transistors. And not the integrated circuit versions. That were originally supplied with that 8078. So that got changed out somewhere back along the line. Possibly before. Vintage King even acquired it? And that's the only way. I would own one of those. Oh my God yes! If I could only? I mean I really love mine. And have for the past, 36 years.. And I never wanted any of the other later ones. Because I wasn't into those IC chip op amps. This one is an audible sonic game changer. In a feature article a few years back with, Alan Sides, Ocean Way Nashville. They did an article on his 8078.. And I quote, " This is the finest IC chip console Neve made." Yours does not have those IC chips. Fucking fabulous! So, I really hope you, push the gain on those MIC and line input gain trim, controls. Pushing it up to its magical edge. Where, it suddenly goes, VAVOOM, sounding. And gets huge and bigger fatter rounder huger than life. And the IC chip version absolutely will not do that and will not deliver that. And you guys did not mention that in that video. And that was so relevant. So important. Shame on you. That makes that a more special 8078 than any other out there. Other than other folks like myself and whoever invested the Extra thousands of dollars. To change out all of those IC chip versions for the discrete earlier transistor versions. That was quite a costly modification investment. That's a 1980s Neve. With 1970 op amps. I mean oh my God! That is one very special Neve desk. I'm jealous. Oh well I had a good life and a decent career and a 1970 Neve. I think I won. Now I can sell everything. Since I have finally assembled everything together I have ever wanted. Make pretend I never did that. And wonder what I'm going to do until I die without getting bored out of my mind? And not being able to live on Social Security benefits alone.. Since I blew all my money on this dumb equipment. And now I guess I'm just supposed to fade out? Because I still feel like I can still compete at 65. And I have fun blowing minds. And not other things. And we will find out soon enough who is going to live and who is going to die. I'm almost 65. And I might as well die having fun. But if you don't. You can have more fun. And try to die again. Because if at first you don't succeed. Drive, drive, again. I'm so glad we had this little talk RemyRAD

The 8078s are great looking, they still looked like Neve desks before they started copying that of the SSL consoles. Those big knobs are awesome.

If you had an ullimited budget, which direction would you go? Restoring an analog desk like this or going 100% digital with a top shelf ProTools rig? And if you went analog, which way would you go?

I'm futuristic kind of guy, definitely would have to go with a Avid S6. Just being able to recall and entire sessions excatly the way you left it, in under 5mins. Alone makes it a winner for me!

100% analog, an 8068 or 8078 like this one. After hearing some summing comparisons between Capitol's 8068 and various other possibilities (mostly rackmount summing mixers) there's no comparison, nothing else would do.
