You’re good at this. Your presentation skills are really good, and although I’ve not watched many of your videos, I suspect you’re a good diagnostician, too. I hope you continue.

I've got two LB's: an 8243 with the spindles that press down on the rear wheels to propel and a 680544 with the belt driving a rear wheel transmission. The 680544 self propel isn't working. I was hoping it was the cable but no dice. The pulley for the drive belt at the bottom of the engine is wobbly and spins loose. I'm thinking that ain't right. Still cuts fine though.

I had one of these for a short time, back in the late 1980's. The belt would not stay on, and it got to be most annoying. I traded it for a 8233 in 1991, and just parted that one out, because the ignition module would fail after about one year. I am now using a 1963 Automower, and a 1979 F series self propelled. Best of luck on this one. I think they used this style of belt drive to use up the old style D engines, before they started with the new D style with the worm gear out of the block.

wether it was old magneto lawnboy coils, or newer module coils? Lawn boy was notorious for that. Other then that, over all they run great. I have 3 models, model 5237 , cs21zpn and 10324c. The 1968 is my only one currently running. As said, I need coils for the newer two, a good carb cleaning, and they will run! Both over 120 psi. The 5237 68 model has about 80 psi

I've searched for and played with Lawn Boys for 18 years. I have never seen even ONE top belt drive for sale in the upper midwest. I'm in Minnesota (near the former Bloomi gton HQ) where LB's were very easy to find in the mid to late 2000's. I have two nice 7268's which I love and prefer non self propelled models, but id own a top belt drive just because of rarity if I could find one.

This is the only top belt drive I know of in working condition, and I've been messing with Lawn Boys for about a decade at this point. I've seen one or two in very poor shape, but this one is miraculously well preserved for the age.

Hey Cap, wondering if you have a quick answer. have you come up with a way to restore the oxidizing on the outside of LB bricktop motors? I have a dozen Lawn-Boys and getting them to run is easy enough, but to really make them pretty..that's a bit tougher. I can check on Mytractorforum if you haven't perfected a fix.

The only lawnmower I've ever owned is a 1981 Lawnboy that I purchased new when I was 26 years old. I've had to replace 2 of the wheels, but it still runs great after 40 years!

Do you think that engine would run sideways cause i was thinking of putting won in a boat
@Rustbelt_Research4 жыл бұрын
The engine should be fine, but the carburetor will have to be flipped horizontally.

My 10515 lost 3rd gear and is losing 2nd, with a rhythmic grinding preceding loss of gear. It still runs fine in first, but shifting is a bit stiff. I figure this is either a slipping pinion gear (in the trans, not the wheels) or shift keys, any idea which is more common or more likely? What are the most common and likely failures in the Lawn Boy 3 speed gearbox?
@adamslawnequipment25895 жыл бұрын
alan6832 you may have to replace the transmission on your lawn boy lol

@@adamslawnequipment2589 This is helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3bFdamGibVlhrc , but I am at an earlier, diagnostic stage, wondering if I have enough information to order parts before full disassembly. If not, I will follow this guy, take the whole thing apart, and try to keep all the bits organized while the new parts are in the mail.

My 10548 became very difficult to shift...so.... checked movement by hand...gears seemed ok...drilled small hole in top front left of housing...filled gearbox with moly oil and let it drip...shifting became much easier, plugged hole with self tapping screw...still running ok....but yes, if it is grinding sounds like a rebuild....
@alan68324 жыл бұрын
@@MrMarcus5191 mine had similar stiffness and I disassembled and lubed with mixture of moly grease and gear oil, I understand the original grease is very cheap and soon gets too thick. My gear loss and grinding turned out to be a worn out output shaft bearing, which I ordered and replaced, with considerable disassembly, but less than a full rebuild.
