Today we are looking at the AVI-8 Lafayette Chronograph. A vintage-style chronograph that is inspired by the Lafayette Escadrille from World War I. It's 42mm wide and powered by a Seiko Mecha-Quartz movement.

Great review as usual, and interesting point comparing this to the Dan Henry models. I've probably commented here on this before, well in that case here we go again: Keep up your very cool and IMHO uniqe narrative style. Very pleasant listening to. AVI-8 are definitely finding their groove, the last couple of designs have been a bit less fussy & more cohesive overall. I'm seriously tempted by the salmon dial version of this.

Nice review. A lot of thought went into this design. They made a very good choice going for a movement with running seconds. Many Mecca quartz watches don’t have the running seconds.

Lovely watch I have a Hawker Harier watch from them. Only problem is that as have gotten older I find the dial rather difficult to read as it's a sort of analogue dial affair. This one is very legible. Shane as your hair gets longer you look younger. You look like a collage kid now. Haha take care. Darren

Good review and nice COVID-19 hair! There are several things to like and dislike about the watch. My favorite is the second hand on the chronograph with the British symbol on the end. Overall the dial is too busy for me but I’m currently on field/military style dials right now.

I’d go Dan Henry over the AVI-8. I think they look cleaner. But I’d go Seagull 1963 over Dan Henry. In fact I did order a 1963 but with the pandemic two months later I’m still waiting for it to arrive. If you buy AliExpress I’ve learned to pay the extra for DHL shipping to the states. Good review and your camera work is outstanding.

I agree with you,too busy and too much going on.If going with the Escadrille de Lafayette theme,they could have fashioned the watch in a more period correct style bearing in mind that at the time the concept of a wrist born timepiece was in it's infancy.....................

I knew nothing about this watch and I had a feeling I wouldn't like it, but I clicked anyhow because Relative Time. I still don't know much about this watch because I can't get past the new pre-prison Rod Blagojevich hairstyle. That alone was enough to score a "Like".

LOL! Yah, that's why it's usual slicked back when I do a video. It's so hot and humid here that if I don't use any gel it goes all 70s within 30 min of getting out of the shower. That, and I am a couple weeks overdue for a haircut.

Good review. I sort of like the dial, in an offhand sort of way. I see the nods to all the historical aspects of it. However, I wish they had gone totally mechanical with it. Even if it drove the price up a notch or two. I'm sort of in the market for another pilot; right now. Anyway, top notch watch review; as always. Take care, my friend.
