Just discovered your channel today and subscribed 😄. The bokeh in that tomato shot is unreal! If you could make a comparison with the new version of this lens, that’d be great. I love the style of your video but one nitpick would be the intro is slightly long. After 5 consecutive videos, I stary wishing for a Netflix-like button to skip intro.

Thank you so much for subscribing. I appreciate it. And thank you about the nice comment on the tomato photo. I was also surprised by the amazing bokeh that this humble little lens can deliver. I'll try to make the intro shorter. I appreciate your honest input.

Your reviews are EXCELLENT. I like your emphasis on bokeh and colour. Resolution and fast aperture is way overrated. I do also like a straight lens and dislike distortion
@VintageOptiks2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! I totally agree that fast apertures and resolution are way overrated.

This lens, if I am not mistaken, was based on a Tomioka design which was also used by Rikenon, auto Sears, Yashica and Mamiya to name a few from that era. I have it, great lens and pretty sharp wide open, nice color rendering and great character.

Prince Hαrbinger Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Not sure how it will compare to the F1.4 version. I’m sure I’ll review it sooner or later 😬
@nathandavis50994 жыл бұрын
I own the 1.4 version, and from the pics, they're very similar lenses. The unique bokeh is very similar to the 1.7, and at 1.4 it's very dreamy. Not the sharpest wide open, but quite sharp by f4. The 1.4 version also has a very long focus throw, as do the 35mm and 135mm Chinons that I also shoot. Stopped down, out of focus point light sources are sharply hexagonal. My copy produces cool colors, with greens going a bit teal, especially in the shadows. A hood is highly recommended as it loses contrast quickly.
@VintageOptiks4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Davis Great comment! Thank you so much for your input!
@nathandavis50994 жыл бұрын
@Imrul Khan I've heard that Tomioka designed both lenses, but that later copies were manufactured my Cosina. I have a later f1.4 copy, so it may have been outsourced.

Wow, some awesome images here, especially the one with the caterpillar....I assume that was shot with extension tubes? I'm going to check out this lens! I really love most of your images BTW. Thanks for the video.
@VintageOptiks4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Actually the caterpillar was shot without an extension tube, but on a cropped sensor which gives you a bit of a magnification compared to full frame. The Sony a7III can switch between the 2, and sometimes if I need the extra crop I switch to cropped sensor. It's a great feature! Thank you also for the kind words about the images. I try to post as many interesting photos as I can with each lens. It's a pretty fun challenge. :) Thank you for watching.
