Everyone goes on about D-28s, but I will take a mahogany any day! That 000 is special! I got chills! I listened to James Taylor when both of us were growing up. He is special!

Classic example of Martin’s magic from back in the day. Both sound wonderful and both seem like they have been well cared for.

Quinton, that old Adirondack top needs some playing each session to 'wake up' as you say. Once it's going, it's okay for the day. Thanks Paul and Quinton

Note -- the OOO is actually a OOO-S. The body is bigger than a standard OOO -- thus part of the big sound
@christianlacheze33237 ай бұрын
At the time this was the standard body, and then in 1931 Martin switched to the 14 fret, square shouldered body. The S denomination was used when Martin re-introduced limited series of 12 fret round shouldered models

I got a 1963 Martin 00-16C and I have to say it sound quite good for its age.

Paul, if I was born in 1951 (or earlier), does that make me "vintage"? They have a restaurant here that gives you a discount of your years if you come in on your birthday. My Dad got 97% off his meal, a free dessert, and they sang happy birthday for him on his 97th birthday. I'm pretty sure that discount wouldn't go over too well on a guitar! Of course we had paid for the other 12 meals! Thanks for the vintage review!

Correct Quinton, that '29 000-18 especially is worth having, not only for it's craftsmanship, workmanship and sounc, but also because of that historical period; we were just heading into what eventually became the "Great Depression" (end of 1929 I believe). And Martin weathered all that, continuing to make outstanding guitars under the Martin family.

Awesome!! I've got a 1953 and I love that thing. I keep it for performing but believe it or not I practice on a little Martin. I've got a Taylor too but nothing compares to the D-28.

Regarding the historical question about the era when the 000-18 was built: The economy had been booming for most of the 1920s, and things were going great until the crash at the end of October, so unless this guitar was built at the very end of the year, it was constructed at the tail end of an era of prosperity.

Wonderful sounding guitars, but that 29 000-18 is off the hook- would love to hear it with an acoustic ensemble.

Two thoughts: If you guys sell 'Bone Tone,' I'll buy a bucket of it. The '51 is like my hound, once she's awake you will never stop her. She's sleeping in this morning. ⏰

FYI....I played an original Martin 1937 D-18, about 10 years ago, that was a dead dog...no kidding. So vintage does not always mean great.
