That was cool. The SE.5a is my favourite WW1 bird.

Hi Danny, just found your video, really nice little RC plane! I'm very tempted to build one of these, could you please tell me if the Micro Aces flight pack you used was the brushed or the brushless one? Many thanks, Cheers, Marc

It flies OK with the "Microaces Micro Motor and Gearbox" (brushed), though subsequently I swapped that out for the "hyper" version as it's a bit more wizzy! I tried a couple of props, and the 5043 is best. That's what it uses... but.... I have found these motors to be quite problematic - the gearbox frame can either crack or deform and then they start skipping. I think this can happen simply from the flying stresses - and advise against the long prop shaft (since you'll have a gyroscope spinning on the end of it, and that will cause bending stress as you pitch up/down). If you use the motor make sure it's installed such that you can remove/replace it. The motor/gearboxes are OK, if you're careful with them, but I had been thinking to try something else for my next build. The three VMC conversions (SE5a, Sopwith triplane and Fokker D.VIII) are my only experience with making/lying powered planes, so I don't know much!

@@profrat Thank you very much for your advice on this, it is very helpful and food for thought.I may well try one of the Microaces brushless flight packs. Good luck for your future build!

Nice biplane , takes me back to the smell of dope on tissue paper.

I used ez-dope which doesn't have any smell or woozy effects - cheating!

what radio gear and electrics are used ?

It's the Microaces AIO Aero Flight Pack. The 5 inch prop (here) gives a bit more power but the 4 inch one looks a bit more scale - it still flies OK though.
