I, too, collect vintage oil lamps! Most of the ones I have are tall, ornate, clear glass. I have one from my maternal grandparents that is pewter, so it was probably silver plated at one time. It has a milkglass shade over the chimney, a similar brass one with a red shade, and a lovely one with a hand painted floral base, no shade. The only other metal one I have has a wrought iron base with a brass bowl for the oil from Russia. Recently, I purchased my very first miniature oil lamp, probably used in a bedroom. It has a clear, ornate glass base, small chimney, no shade. I love them all, and wish I could find more that are affordable. You have a large and lovely collection....thank you for showing them.....

It sounds like you have a lovely collection! I’ve been fortunate to find all that I have for quite inexpensively. It’s a fun collection that was actually quite useful when we had the ice storm 2 years ago ☺️ Thank you so much for watching and sharing your collection with me 💕

I just 2 months ago developed a fascination with old oil lamps, fixed one, fixed another, I now have 6, going to send your video to my good lady. I know she's going to tell me I'm not allowed to match your awesome collection 😅 love it

I just started collecting antique oil lamps too. I’d never though it would be so addictive. My favorite ones to collect are the glass ones and the so called French Pigeon lamps (often made of brass or copper). EspeciaIly those last ones are so rewarding to polish up. I probably bought about ten of them in just one month, lol. Oil lamps (the nice looking ones) just have such a beautiful and soothing quality to them. Restoring them is also a nice thing to do. I Love your collection.

Is there anyway to tell when they where made?
@KneppwoodatHome Жыл бұрын
Hello, sorry for missing your question. Kind of…mostly by becoming familiar with the styles, where the were made and the finishes. I use google lens to get a rough idea, and then get lost in the research. Sorry I can’t be terribly specific. I know glass in general, so I apply that knowledge to oil lamps. Thank you for your question 💕

I want to see the ugly ones!
@KneppwoodatHome Жыл бұрын
Honestly, there were only a couple that were ‘ugly’ and that was because they’d been abused by their previous owners and they wouldn’t come clean, due to being so badly burned. Not sure if they’d been in a house fire or what. They actually sold in the shop to someone needing them for a specific background or display purpose. So, sadly I cannot show them…sorry 😔

@@KneppwoodatHome I have a big gray metal one. Flat on top and bottom, about 8 inches in diameter, 4 inches deep. It has a handle on it. There is no glass with it and the rim where a glass shade might go does not seem sufficient to hold one. It might have had some other function or some other attachment. But it is ugly and I love it.
