Thanks for a great series on Paiste. I'm a long time Paiste player and endorser, and would just like to add a few things to fill out some of the stories: I talked to Michael Paiste (son of Robert, who left the company to go on his own around 20+ years ago. He & Fredy Studer were the cymbal developers in the 1990s), maybe 15 or so years ago and he said that he had approached his father about setting up a foundry to produce their own metal, like the other cymbal makers, but the very stringent Swiss environmental regulations made it impossible to do from a financial standpoint. So they continued to outsource their alloys. Michael also had gone to China to check out their production as a possible source for B20 blanks before they decided on the Turkish ones for the Masters Series. Pierre Favre - last name is pronounced FAV-eh. Bonus trivia: When Pierre started the Paiste Drummer’s Service in the late 1960s, he hire pianist, Irene Schweitzer, who played in his quartet, to be his secretary. She went on to become one of the most legendary improvising musicians in Switzerland. While the gongs are made in Germany, I actually have a Paiste Gong stamped ‘Made in Switzerland.’ A real oddity. The original Joe Morello Flat Ride was stamped ‘Space Sound’, because they probably thought that’s what it sounded like. That cymbal is now owned by Jerome Duepree, formerly of the band Morphine, who got it from Joe. Nudgu Chandler (Michael Jackson and just about everybody else) replaced Michael Shrieve in Santana in 1974, touring and playing on the albums ‘Borboletta’ and ‘Amigos’. He was a long time Paiste endorser. Graham Lear came after Nudgu in 1976-87. I was a Paiste dealer in the late 1980s when the 3000s came out and they were great cymbals. I still have some, and to me, they were a more refined 2002 cymbal. My 3000 20" Flat Ride is such a beautiful sounding cymbal. I’m really surprised that you didn’t talk about the 2000 series, which are fantastic cymbals and very collectable! I get people asking me about them all the time and they want to buy mine. BTW, those 3000 & 505 flyer scans are my scans from my collection that I posted on the web. I recognize the creases in the 505 one. Finally, if you go back to the early 1990s, I did the first major interviews of both Pierre Favre and Fredy Studer for Modern Drummer magazine. They both had great stories about Paiste and drummers visiting the factory.

I could listen to you guys talk Paiste all day! I would love to talk about the 3000's a bit more. I feel they're disregarded a lot. Nicko McBrain, Scott Rockenfield, Charlie Benate, and Dave Lombardo were hugely important to me and my love of all things Paiste. If you like 7th Son or Mindcrime, you like 3000's. Thanks for another great cast!

I had the same experience with Giant Beats. Love them but easy to dent, especially the bell. Brand new, and I'm not a hard hitter.

Love to hear more about exotic Paiste products. I’ve been chasing one called a Roto sound cymbal for years and love to know if you have information on that and other cool Paiste must have items. Love this episode!

I absolutely love my Paiste Giant Beat reissues. 22" multi is my go-to cymbal for the style of electric - jazz/jam music. Beautiful instruments.

This is good stuff. I'm a PAiSTe nut. My last purchase was a 22" 602 Medium Ride. My first hi-hats were 404 when I was a kid. A lot in between. Cheers.
