I am a subscriber to the both of you. Liked these videos. I wish I could send you a box and whatever you don't want, send to her. I am a vintage hog but my husband is contemporary. I tried to marry the 2 but no go and he usually wins. So I have bins of all my old stuff. I hate seeing it sit. Anyhow, enjoyed this.

Looking at that handwritting looks exactly like my grandma's did. It was certainly more a priority back then. Now most stuff is typed, so it's not viewed as important. And mrcynthiag I don't like bringing politics into this, but the decline of the arts in schools is because of a lack of funding to schools, and cutting school funding is a very conservative side thing to do. It's sad, the arts are so important! As a preschool teacher we have multiple art activity options at any given time because we recognize how important and formative it is!

I don't think it has much to do with politics or blaming the other side, but I think they waste a lot of time in schools with having the teacher drone on instead of hands-on learning, making dumb posters instead of getting the facts down, etc. I'm not saying these things are important, but when you want to fit in tests, learning, art projects, social time, some things are gonna fall down the priority list.

mrcynthiag Yes, luckily I was taught cursive in 3rd grade, although it was quite brief. I heard that cursive wouldn't be taught in schools anymore shortly afterwards, but I'm not sure.. do they still teach cursive in the states?

Hugh Jass it's all practice! I know you can do it too! I taught myself copperplate handwriting and now it's completely second nature to me! Just write everything you can in handwriting and inevitably you'll get better!!

Everything in that box is beautiful! I was reminded of all the jewelry I have from my mother and grandmother by that brooch and scarf. Plus - those letters!! They're gorgeous!! They reminded me of working in an archive and cataloging letters. Honestly one of my fav parts of the job.

I absolutely loved watching this video because my Dad was a German POW (Prisoner Of War), twice & I wish I had my parents letters to each other from back then & the 1st time he enlisted he was 17 yr.'s old, my Mom was 15 & they got married when she was 17 & that was in 1944...I was always mesmerized by their stories & now I'm telling them to my siblings who weren't as into our parents history as me because they are all older, but I so loved listening...🤗, to my children, my nieces, nephews, my grandchildren, my great nieces & nephews, etc. because most of them are so fascinated now as I was & still am!!! All the pretties :D Cute video! I love the letters especially. Seeing into the minds of people back then and holding the letters they held in your own hands is a sensation on its own. The dress looked darling on you! And as for The Hobbit, have you tried reading the runes on the cover and inside pages? From the quick bit I saw on the cover, I managed to read the words "the hobbit" in part of the gold script. Pretty cool!
