Subscribe: / bikeituk
This vintage 753 Peugeot road bike, in Z-team colours has had a complete transformation and restoration. The bicycle in the video is completely stripped down, repainted, restored and rebuilt before being taking back out on the open road for the all important test ride.
Is this the best bike build yet?
I collaborated with Mark from MRCreations to bring this vintage Peugeot 753 road bike back to life. We have used him many times before and he has never failed to impress us with his air brushing ability.
The video shows the full bike build and an epic ride. Plus hints, tips and help with your own projects along the way.
Watch as this Peugeot road bike is completely transformed to a classic Z-Team racing bike.

I think it would be a nice touch to add your opinion of the ride quality each time you restore a bike. (I've heard that 753 can feel overly stiff). Also you should do an episode on your favourite bikes and your keepers.
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 8 ай бұрын
Yes it definitely on the cards regarding which bikes I’ve kept and why. Ref the frames I think the geometry and the accuracy of the frame builder probably have a bigger bearing on the ride quality. The 753 certainly felt lighter that’s for sure. 🤔definitely a good discussion and maybe a video in there. Thanks for the idea
@DSBSB
@DSBSB Ай бұрын
753 is less stiff than 531, which is again less stiff than 501. This is because the tube wall is thinner, making it flex more. The higher steels are stronger, but all steel has the same stiffness (modulus of elasticity). Therefore, if you have 2 identical tubes, one of 501 and one of 753, they will ride exactly the same. The advantage of the better steel is that it is stronger, so it can be made thinner, without bending. This makes it lighter, but also less stiff. Only shaping/oversizing a tube will alter this. It's all physics - ignore the marketing and internet stories.

That's a gorgeous bike. Cost of resprays has made me try my own paint jobs - can't be as good as that & takes lots of time, but satisfying. Got a Peugeot 753, but with 10 speed set up & low gears for my old legs. Lovely ride.

Just rebuilt a 753 from a French frame builder called Preuss. The paint work was already brilliant, it required a special BB replacement and there was like one possibility in the entire world, everything went wrong and I won't dare tell about replacing the spring in the brifter, but i put on a 7410 dura ace set and the final result is amazing. Total fan of your channel Andy 🥳😍

My good sir, I have stumbled across your channel whilst watching other restoration videos and you have pushed me to correctly restore an old colombus tubed schwinn that currently sits with a hodgepodge of parts. Slowly collecting old 600 tricolor group to replace the dia compe, suntour and shimano parts currently on it now. Unfortunately I don't have the means to paint in my apt or at work but rebuilding the wheels, headset and BB have been quite fun. You have never done a professional level Motobecane. They were fixtures in the Euro racing scene for years. Huret or Campy mechs? Specialties TA or Stronglight chainset? We're counting on you mate!

In my opinion they were and still are a huge organisation, I believe they had the backing to provide a variety good bicycles at a great price and had the success of the cycling teams at the time.

Totally BEAUTIFUL build, Andy. I'm guessing that rear cassette is a 13-23 (26) ?? Keep them coming . KB

@@BikeItUK image pros today racing on 13-26 cassette and 42/52 chaining ? My first road bike, back in 1983 had that same gearing, and I was in my 30s going up hill. I sure do love the modern gearing , though.KB

Hello Andy, Enjoyed your video,as usual! I have two Vitus-framed Peugeot's from the eighties, both in vgc.One is a 'Course',and the other a,'Super Sport' both in what I've been told is 'Peugeot-Kingfisher Blue? Can l ask; have you ever featured either of these bikes on your programme? Thanking you,Mick.

Incredible job, as always. What brand of chainstay protector do you use? I bought one recently but it just didn't stick.

Hi, thanks for watching glad you liked it. Ref the protector it’s just one from eBay. I always clean the surface with a degreaser and also heat the area up slightly with a hairdryer. Hope this helps

Amazing job! Planning on restoring an old Peugeot bike I have at my parents house over Christmas. I notice you have recessed nuts for this bike's break calipers. Did the frame have the correct sized holes for this or did you have to drill it?

Uniglide NOS 👍 cost me a small fortune. The bike runs like new though
@lewis72
@lewis72 8 ай бұрын
@@BikeItUK Yes, I _think_ that Uniglide was only made for a few years before Hyperglide took over. It is possible to modify Hyperglide to fit Uniglide but I think it takes some angle grinding !

Vintage steel blows modern carbon rubbish out the water.These " old bikes " will still be around for centuries while all the carbon bikes will have cracked frames and generally just disintegrate.
