Vintage railway film - The third Sam - 1962

In this vintage railway film, produced by British Transport Films in 1962, Sam Smith is taught to drive an electric locomotive. He learns the new job without difficulty, but one day his train breaks down and Sam summons up three sides of his character to deal with the emergency. 'First Sam' couldn't care less, 'Second Sam' flies into a terrible panic but 'Third Sam' solves the problem.

I wonder what the target audience was. Perhaps drivers to get them to be trouble shooters for simple problems to be solved. Perhaps the alternative were causing problems then.

RIP steam traction. The disgraceful waste of nearly brand new British standard steam loco’s sent to scrappers decades before their time. Also those engines built after the war similarly scrapped, by governments in love with the road lobby hell bent on destroying the countries railways.

Saw this at Gosforth Car Sheds in 1970 -bit puzzled as we didn't have Overhead Wires but it put 20 mins in. I think there is a "Third Sam" for diesel locos as well

@@RHR-221b Norwich-Nantwich is a valiant effort at combining alliteration and rhyming, but the service(s) wouldn't have been electrified then. Not sure when London-Norwich was electrified but Norwich-Nantwich still isn't. dataportal.orr.gov.uk/media/1842/rail-infrastructure-assets-2019-20.pdf. Indeed, the quickest journey between Norwich and Nantwich is via Liverpool Street and Euston, which would be all-electric except that the last 8 minutes is Transport for Wales Crewe-Shrewsbury service - I'm pretty sure that's diesel.The nearest-to-direct service requires a change at Stockport but takes 50 minutes longer than going via London!
