I own a 1981 Maxi IV purchased when I was working towards my PADI certifications. Since it was a real-world "tool watch" that I literally dived with, it suffered a ton of wear. I knocked not one but two bezels off, dinged the crystal, stretched the band and scratched the case on coral reefs. After I "retired" from scuba, I had the watch sympathetically restored by Tommy Tucker (movement) and Michael Young (case & band) so it retains the patina and look of a 40 year old timepiece. I now wear it as a piece of jewelry, and it always garners attention.

Nice review of this 5513 Fullset. Getting harder and harder to find one with papers. I picked up a 1966 Gilt dial 5513 complete Fullset a few years back. Original unmolested and everything matching etc. I can’t believe the prices of these things. I remember buying a nice 5513 back in the 90’s for under 2k. You can’t even buy the original bracelet for 2k nowadays. Crazy times with Rolex prices. The 5513 is the quintessential Submariner. It along with the 1016 Explorer are the foundation of any vintage Rolex collection. As far as vintage Rolex go either are still affordable. Yes Gilt dials are much more costly but I still prefer them over the Matt versions. Personal preference but you can’t go wrong with either

Great video. I also own a 16610 and it’s very cool to see it compared and contrasted with this iconic reference.

The dot of lume at the top of the bezel is missing. Can it be replaced? Should it be replaced?

Ripley looks so good here. The darker shirt and coat, fresh haircut and blushed skin tone 👌🏼 ♥️

My 5513 has been on my wrist non stop since 1978, now being serviced....lost the papers ages ago but the watch has crossed the atlantic on sail boats and flown over 16,000 hours world-wide. I am absolutely in love with it.

Great video but I gotta laugh at the dude with the wife-beater t-shirt with no sleeves in the right background. Are you guys in a Florida Walmart! 😂

I agree the ones that have just the right amount of patina are just beautiful. I salivate every time I see one of these and I’ll never afford. Boohoo.
