This guy is so cool. Pulp magazines are the high water mark of Western culture as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad to have found this channel. I wish you guys were my parents, heh.

That was the first time I saw scify pulp magazines inside and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Great video!

Paola, while the covers are outstanding, the interior art is often just a good, black and white of course, but usually by the same great artists who did the covers. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Beautiful collection, Gary. “Thrilling Wonder Stories” I always felt published many of the seminal science fiction stories of the Golden Age. The Arthur C. Clarke entry you mention, “30 Seconds-30 Days”, is best known as “Breaking Strain”, one of my favorites of his. It was one of a handful of stories that served as source material for Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

Thanks for showing us some of your pulps Gary. I've started collecting a few because I to love everything about them. I've even started getting the " Captain Future " reprints from Amazon and would like to get them all before it over. Not as cool as the real deal but to read there great. But I know I'm going to keep getting pulps from the past. Just to awesome not too. God bless you and the missus.

I did enjoy it Gary Lovisi, thank you for showing us your cool collection, and yes, the art is amazing, and a lot of the writing was great, they just did not always know that at the time. I was able to find some Doc Savage reprints years ago, are there reprints of any others?

Revive with color illustrations(colored pencil comic book art, watercolor, gouache). Signed print's. Added value items. 2025 can be a good year for revivals.

Try using comic book pages instead of single illustration along with text to revive (alike plastic records) to bring back niche readers. Who know where it can grow

those are really cool i wish we still had stuff like that i mean, i know there are still short story magazines and such, but i feel like they lack the magic of what they used to be

The art work in the pulps is so amazing and i know them being pulp they were made on cheap paper but in modern times i think it would sell well because being graphic novels they are compromises between comics and novels and if you like superheroes like so many i think people would transition to reading more!!!!!!

Great video. You have some nice editions. I love those old pulps. I have only one and that’s an old Argosy magazine that’s falling apart. But I do have some reprints in which all stories by one character are reprinted. Like Vee Brown, Doctor Death (review of that one on my channel), and such. Do you know the reading event GarbAugust? Every August is dedicated to reading pulp and old trashy novels. This reading event is hosted by Olly over at CriminOlly. But I guess you read pulps all year round. lol. Well me too. I’m planning to read some pulp novels with giant apes in the next month for the reading event Giant Ape-Ril which I’m co-hosting. This is all about reading fiction and non-fiction about giant apes like King Kong, Bigfoot, and the Yeti. But I found also some interesting-looking stories in magazines like Amazing Stories and Astounding Stories.

I almost fainted when he opened the first magazine! Old newsprint is fragile and easy to tear-- I have some Simon & Kirby romance comics and I handle them with care... and rarely! I doubt I'll do the whole Crystal casing thing but owning and showing are enough for me.

@@garylovisi357 I did, you have a nice collection. UPDATE I thought the name "Alexander Blade" sounded familiar because it was also one of the pseudonyms David Vern Reed wrote under when he wrote for the pulps. Assuming you're correct about Mr. Brown, is it possible Brown had assistant writers who all wrote under the "Alexander Blade" moniker? If I remember correctly, "The Shadow's" primary writer Walter Gibson and his assistants wrote under the fictitious credit "Maxwell Grant"!

Without pulp magazines, we'd never have Lovecraft or Asimov or comic books or even the entire sci-fi and horror genres as we know them.
