I’m 70 and still have the Plumb hand axe Dad gave me when I joined the Scouts at 12 It’s still as sharp as a razor and I use it a lot at my fire pit Thanks for the trip down memory lane

I have been a member of the same scout troop for 68 years, and have fond recollections of a lot of this gear; I still have a flint and steel fire making kit, complete with the green bag carrying case, but it has been modified a bit; the flat piece of steel that it came with was replaced by a piece of a flat file for better sparking, and the tinder that was furnished was replaced many years ago with some fine steel wool. Catch a spark in the steel wool, one quick rotation of the arm (like a softball pitcher) and you've got fire. NOW!!

Scouter for life here. I enjoy using items from my youth, or vintage items I find and collect. I like finding old style Uniforms in my size.

Thank you, Greg, for a wonderful walk down Memory Lane. I was in Scouting 1949-1956; & I was a scout leader from 1975-1981. We share some of the same items, but I never had a lot of official Scout gear because our famnily could not afford it; however, much of my gear came from hardware stores. I do still have Scout canteens, a mess kit, & my prize item is a1950s Official Boy Scout First Aid Kit by Johnson & Johnson in the rectangular tin. I imagine that you & I could share some lengthy tales about our respective Happy Trails! May God bless you & yours.

It's either an Esbit or a BSA clone. Very lightweight little stove that has heated many a cup of coffee on trail
