Boy Eugene does this bring back memories for me, This was the exact very first washer that I ever restored back in 1984!!! Only mine was Avocado Green and I got it from a women who had it stored in her basement for a few years because it stopped pumping water and she bought a new one... I tore it down and cleaned it all up because it was really filthy, Then I put in a new pump and a new belt put it all back together again and it worked like a charm!!! Btw my agitator did the same thing when it spun and it's called free play... When I had a heavy load in it the clothes would hug the agitator and it would fully spin... But when I had a lighter load in it, It would skip turns just like yours did!!! The only time that the agitator will lock into place is, if the agitation has already started and you shut it off then you can't move it... But before you start the load you can turn it back and forth by hand freely and that's what I use to do to mix the detergent before adding the clothes... It will also be free spinning during the spin cycle also!!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane Eugene and have a great day!!!

Robert Przybylowicz yes totally right about the agitator I remember holding my aunts machine years ago. I believe it was a 1957 Lady Kenmore the agitator when I did the laundry and it went into the spin it was completely free wheeling and again you’re right only if you stop the machine while it’s washing you can’t move the agitator.

The very first automatic washing machine my mom had was Kenmore Suds saver that had the control panel on the front of the machine and the color was a pastel pink. My Dad got it for her for a Mother’s Day present so she wouldn’t have to use the old wringer washer.

This Kenmore washer was made by Whirlpool. It was a belt drive washer with a transmission. This was made a decade before they introduced the direct drive. The Whirlpool direct drive was an upgrade for their washing machines. They new belt drives with no transmission are just junk. They replaced the most reliable with the least reliable.

My grandma had this exact same washer, same control panel, and everything. It was a 1972 model. You’re right, the agitator should fully disengage for the spin cycle, and it should spin the same RPMs as the tub. Hopefully by now, you’ve got this old girl cleaned up and repaired. 😃 I’d be interested in it if you ever decided to sell it.

The GE branded front loaders from the mid 2000s were actually made by a chinese company called White Swan.

It's standard capacity. Main-stream models went super capacity 18# in 1974 (IIRC) and would have a PentaVane or PentaSwirl agitator. 18# capacity prior to that was limited to a few specific models. Agitation problem is probably a bad spring in the transmission.

Usually the water will come out of the deturgent dispensor during the agitator cycle (unless you have the washer turned on Suds first before going to the wash cycle)

the suds saver valve was the solonoid not pulling in all the way its the eddie currant makeing it that noisy easy to fix:)

Yes you are correct about the first two digit after the 110 being the year the machine was introduced. The 700 at the end of the model number denotes the model level if I am not mistaken so that would mean it is a 700 series.

the other problem with the agatator could be the transmission not shifting in to wash mode propery i would check the wigwag and the shift cam:)

Model year on pre2000 Kenmore is first and third digits after the 110. Its a 1970. Then on the last digits of serial number you see 70 so thats also the year.

Water should gush out of the detergent dispenser like a waterfall for about the first 5-7 minutes during the wash cycle.

@1:40, that's actually Warm Wash/Cold Rinse. Wash temperatures on the outer arc, and rinse temperatures on the inner.

This is a cool machine! Hope you'll be able to improve it with some TLC. I wonder why the off balance buzzer was sounding during the wash drain. I hope you'll be able to get the detergent dispenser to work. Despite its slipping issues it did a great job with your clothes. Does this one have the fluorescent tube over the control panel?

I have not been able to remove the agitator from my 1970 model. I think it is just rust, since I can't see any bolt (other than the cap) to hold it in place.

Something isn’t engaging and disengaging properly in the transmission. The agitator should spin freely with the tub and spin the exact same RPMs as the tub. Hopefully they’ve got it fixed and restored since this video was done.

it does need work the lint filter is not flowing as it should be and the part in the start was not the belt it was the gear in the transmission it was tite i have fixed many a machine like this this one was sitting for along time with no use it shows its sad
