@@Channel-cm7yc Well I think that "junk" they make today could have potential but Whirlpool isn't interested in making long lasting appliances anymore I assume. For one I do like the fact that the agitator washers do have a longer stroke design again. All accomplished through the motor without a transmission is forward thinking but the machines themselves are too lightweight and cheaply made.

The reason they cleaned better was because they rinsed better. Nowadays, with restricted water consumption, machines are tweaked to the point where they don't rinse all that well anymore. Mostly consumers won't notice immediately. It something that manifests itself over time. In the past we also never had to run cleaning cycles on our washers. They kept themselves clean. There were never any mouldy, musty odors.

1976 Supreme 80 we had filled that high, to the bottom of the agitator cap ... BUT, it had a deeper tub (27 gallons on high level) and the water *did not* touch the tub ring. Later models such as this one were revised to a slightly smaller tub to reduce water usage and shouldn't fill that high. Does the outer tub have slots near the top edge for the tub ring clips? Water can slosh and leak out of those slots when it's too high.

I pretty much rebuilt my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer since I put a good used transmission in it, replaced the center post seals, tub bolts/seals, tub seal, and pump grommet. Surprisingly it worked perfectly fine when I got it but what led me to essentially tearing the machine apart is I took the inner tub out to see what condition the outer tub was in and upon further inspection there were a few rust spots on the tub and I decided to do a partial rebuild to it mainly coating the outer tub with POR15 and black engine enamel paint and even painted the center post of the tub with POR15 to prevent it from rusting any further. Still waiting on the transmission pulley to arrive since the used transmission I bought off eBay didn’t come with one and some JB Weld plastic bonder for a plastic part that broke off of the check valve for the lint filter/automatic dispensers.

Did that have the large capacity super Surgilator Glen ? The one where the fins immediately flare out on the post ? I know this agitator came out in 1978.
@DADoESofTX4 жыл бұрын
@@patcola7335 Being a 1976 model (LDA-7800), it had a regular Super Surgilator. The version with "wings" on the base skirt is called the Double-Duty Super Surgilator (introduced on the next LFA model series). The original Surgilator (not Super) had the ends of the three lower fins flush with the base, whereas the Super has them extending a bit past the base. Interestingly the Double-Duty has the three fins also flush at the base (as you can see in Eugene's video) with the wings providing the additional "Double-Duty Super" water action.
@patcola73354 жыл бұрын
@@DADoESofTX Yes Glen that I know but there is a super Surgilator BEFORE the double duty for the 18 lb.tubs. I know the super Surgilator has the extended vanes over the skirt but the post vanes taper at the top. The 18 lb.super Surgilator had vanes that flare out immediately from the top of the post underneath the cap also with extended fins at the base. If you remember from the archives of aw.org there was a harvest gold pair of Whirlpool Imperials from 1975 that the couple wanted to save. That machine had the agitator I'm trying to explain.
@DADoESofTX4 жыл бұрын
@@patcola7335 There was a black bakelite Surgilator taller and with larger three lower fins on the one 18 lb model offered when the increased capacity was introduced in 1967. I have copies of a couple magazine ads that describe it. There was also a larger Roto-Swirl on the sibling Kenmore 18 lb, which was initially called the 518 model. Bakelite was switched to polypropylene in ~1969, at which point the larger lower fins were eliminated but the centerpost was taller with the small vanes on it extended upwards accordingly. 18 lb went mainstream into the WP and KM lines in 1974 with both standard and super capacities offered in most of the models. Seems in '74 or by '76 both sizes had the same agitator .. thus our '76 18 lb filling up to the cap ... until the Double-Duty was introduced.

Even though this old machine seems to be better at moving the stuff around, it still wouldn’t convince me to change from a front loader, but I think coming from the UK we have had it instilled into us that front loaders are the norm amd are better, like you guys in the states have predominantly had top loaders and told the same thing, the top loaders in the uk are quite hard to find, back when hoover made the front load keymatic people’s choices veered to the front load machine and away from a bulky top loader, and as many people in the uk have theirs plumbed in in the kitchen the front loaders we have had have all fitted beneath the kitchen counter top, My personal choice will always be front load,

I enjoy your videos, but water level is way too high! It should not come to the "cap" on the top of the agitator. Those first little fins near the top was correct (where the water level was) was more correct. We had one and that was the highest it ever got. This one is sloshing all around. Shocking. It washes beautifully and the suspension is dialed in great! Good job, but that water level. Umm... no. By the way, on the second rinse / drain... near the end of the drain before it begins spinning, water "wooses' out of the top threads of the agitator cap.

I would honestly settle for just the agitator since it has 4 chips/chunks missing off it and this machine is in pristine condition, very little rust, frame and everything is solid no leaks and runs like it is brand new. We had an accident when washing and it caused that and when it spun it broke parts of the plastic top ring thing and the lint filter. I honestly cried when I saw it because I spent over 25 years looking for this machine and had to drive 1,000 miles one way to get it. So if anyone has anything please let me no. Thanks you guys.
