Exciting plans, I like that you will be including a make do and mend element and featuring vintage inspired clothing that has comfort and practicality in mind too

Thank you very much! I know comfort and practicality isn’t always exciting! But it’s what we all tend to reach for in the morning! Mending isn’t too exciting either. But the art of mending is disappearing and I think it should be brought back! Thank you very much for watching and encouraging me 💐

I’m so pleased that you like my plans! Thank you very much! I’ve done a few videos on fabrics, patterns and haberdashery but I could definitely do another on haberdashery as I seem to have accumulated more! I also want to do a video on novelty fabric prints as they are truly special. I do have a long term plan to copy my best true vintage fabric prints and put them on Spoonflower or something like it! 💐

Wonderful plans Samantha, I'm looking forward to seeing them. Exciting collaborations too. I've also got some thirfted hand embroidered table clothes and was thinking of making a peasent blouse too. Maybe as an idea maybe ask your viewers to show their makes either under make use and mend, vintage inspired etc It would be nice to share this together 😍

Thank you very much for watching and encouraging my plans! There’s something about embroidered tablecloths that lends itself to peasant blouses isn’t there?! Perhaps it’s because those Eastern European embroidered blouses were so popular in the 30s and 40s (and hugely sought after and expensive now of course!). But we can make our own! That’s a very good idea to group makes into themes. I will definitely take that advice - and of course let me know if you’d like to join in 💐

Another really interesting video Samantha. I always look forward to your videos so much, as you seem to be interested in many of the same things I am. My favourite era is the 30s, closely followed by the early 40s so I will love seeing you make the 1930s dresses you have planned. I'm also planning to make some 30s and 40s housedresses for myself as I will get far more use out of them than I would anything more fancy. I'm also looking forward to seeing more make do and mend stuff as I want to improve my mending skills and am planning to make some patchwork things too. The collabs sound brill, especially the Haslam stuff. I have the Haslam tool along with the book of foundation drafts and a book of 30s patterns, but somehow have never got round to starting it. I also think including viewers makes sounds fabulous. So it seems like I have plenty to look forward to. Thank you so much for making such wonderfully engaging videos for us all!

Thank you for such a lovely message! It does sound like we love all the same things. I also feel I will get much more wear out of comfortable, practical clothes like house dresses. One of my collabs is to be a Haslam 40s house dress in fact! I know what you mean about Haslam. It’s hard to get started. Let’s make this the year we both get going on it. I’m sure once we start there’ll be no stopping us! When you make your 30s and 40s house dresses do let me know if you’d like to show photos of them on my channel. I think it’s so interesting to see what we’re all doing and encourage each other. Otherwise sewing (especially vintage sewing!) can be a rather solitary activity! Really pleased you’re enjoying the videos and thank you very much for taking the time to encourage me 💐

Enjoy your visit! No rush here either. Also, I meant to tell you thank you for your kind words! You are always so very generous. And a little PS, I stumbled on a 3 1/2 yard piece of vintage nearly sheer floral that might be perfect for pajamas! It is narrow as most vintage is so, I’m not sure if there is enough. If not it will become a cute little girl’s dress.

I love all these plans. That dress you’re working on now is adorable. I think the Instagram share is a wonderful idea that I would join. Sadly, my 30’s and 40’s makes are from reproduction patterns but I have some 60’s makes from originals. I’m going to check out making garments from old quilts because I’ve acquired a closet full.

I’m glad you want to see the butterfly sleeve dress and even more pleased that you’d like to join in with the viewers’ makes! It doesn’t matter at all if your 30s and 40s makes are from repro patterns. It actually makes it much easier for others to buy them for themselves if they like the designs. The only reason I’m drawn to the originals is that I’m vintage sized and the repro patterns are graded to modern sizes, which are better for a lot of people. And 60s makes would be fab too. I will be interested to know what you make from old quilts - I’m thinking perhaps I should do a viewers’ makes video once a year! Thank you very much for watching and supporting 💐

Hi Samantha 👋 Im really looking forward to your ideas and makes using vintage embroidered linens! They are in abundance and, like you, i'd feel happy repurposing the more 'average' pieces! Definitely 🎉 YES 🎉 to collaborations ! They're very enjoyable and, if i sewed, I'd be posting my creations on your proposed 'sharing our makes' platform!! Wonderful idea 💡 its no wonder you are a tip top five star content creator 👌 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hi Rowan, yes the local charity shops always have vintage embroidered linens for a few quid (and then my mum gets a percentage off for volunteering!). This isn’t relevant 🤣 but the other day I went to a bric a brac sale at a local open gardens. I got a gate leg table with barley twist legs, lots of old 40s wartime newspapers and a very fetching vintage tin. £8 the lot! How can you go wrong? … though you’ve seen what happened in my loft 😂 As for sharing makes - not just sewing but yarn crafts like, say, CROCHET are very welcome 😃 My mum will be showing off her weaving. She doesn’t know it yet but she will (perhaps at the moment she sees it on screen 😂) Oh I’m revelling in the idea of being a tip top 5-star content creator. I don’t think the dogs fully appreciate my talents beyond preparing their food and walking them. Thank you very much!! 😁❤️

@@Samanthalovestosew My goodness 😲 those kinda prices remind me of the long gone Jumble Sale!! Real genuine bargains. 🥺 Those days, I thought, would never return...But no!!! Not in the rural south west! Where a Jumble Sale by any other name is just as cheap!! 😄 You wait, we'll be elbowing our way through the old biddies to get to the good stuff🤭 Other crafts you say ? Crochet you say ? Hmmm 🤔 I just might be able to dig out the odd piece somewhere 'round here 🤣🤣🤣 Your mum will be thrilled to see her work featured! @@rowanhughes8682 The rural south west is awash with vintage and antiques (people as well as bric a brac!) Do you know Exmoor has the longest life expectancy in the UK - people live to 97 here on average. So there are 103 and 104 year olds knocking about 😆 You are right, it’s good to keep my mum’s morale up, show her that her work is truly appreciated. Coincidentally she’s just been presented with half a garage worth of fleece to spin, dye and knit. Time for me to leaf through some knitting patterns methinks. Well if you think you could lay your hands on the odd bit of crochet…. 😆 I would love to feature it! 😃

@Samanthalovestosew
@Samanthalovestosew 2 ай бұрын
Ahh…. I don’t think Liberty makes Viyella anymore. Mine are all vintage Liberty, mainly from the 1970s. I do have a source though - donnaflowervintagefabrics on Instagram. She has an Etsy shop too but has much more fabric behind the scenes that she sells on Instagram on Wednesdays. She has lots of vintage Liberty viyellas coming up for sale tomorrow in fact. I will be on the lookout too! She’s in the UK so I know that means customs fees if you’re in the US. You can get modern viyellas but they’re 80 percent cotton 20 percent wool; whereas vintage viyella is softer at 60/40. I love it - so easy to wear. Glad you like the idea of the collaborations too. I think it makes things more fun and interesting! And thank you very much for watching 🤗
