This is the biggest box I have ever done on a tool box tour. Gambled at a local estate auction.

This was the biggest box I have ever done on a toolbox tour. It was a real gamble just bidding off photos (one photo per drawer). I guess in my final statement, that I wish it could have been better, I wasn't really factoring in the value of the box. At the same time we all wish it will be better, when you pay that much 🤣🤣🤣Thank you to all who watched, I really do appreciate it!

Yes, lot of money, but I think you got a good deal. The boxes alone cleaned up may be worth what you paid. You certainly could not buy those boxes new for that money. Most tools have used for sure, if tools could only share their history of use, it would be interesting. Have a good day, I always enjoy your videos. The manager at my local Harbor Freight told me one day that Snap On was not a tool company, they were a finance company, tools were a way to support their finance operation.

Thank you for the kind words! Yes, I tend to forget about the value of the box itself. If I figure the box is worth $1000 or so then the tools are a good deal. Snap-on makes great tools but I can't defend the new price on most of them. Thank you for watching!

Snap-on is a marketing company that makes tools. (I’m a former employee.) Standard width boxes are a tough sell these days. Maybe $750. Thanks for the videos!

I was buying a lot of Snap On starting in the 80s, i have 4 of the triangular handle screwdrivers. Only a guess that it may have been 1985-1987 when i bought them. The wooden stick with the suction cups is a valve lapper. I was pointing at the TV saying "the tube of valve lapping compound is RIGHT THERE, there's your clue!" That's pretty old school now. My dad had one that was like an egg beater, you cranked it and the suction cup went back and forth.
@thetoolbandit
@thetoolbandit 2 ай бұрын
That's funny! I truly do look at these on the fly, otherwise I would ID the tools in advance to look smarter LOL. I even though it had to do with valves, I think the other one I have was sold by Thexton or Lisle. I have had several of the egg beater style, that I would have known. It's funny you mention the compound, never saw it. I actually look through the camera when I do these so I don't always see the details, especially when I am just going after the tools. Thanks for the info! Thank you for watching!

LOL, I just went back and watched and it is plain as day. I think I shut my brain off to most non-tool items when I am looking through the drawers, that one was so obvious it almost hit me in the face.

@@thetoolbandit I understand, it's different making vs watching. I enjoy your videos, a lot of it is a trip down memory lane. The one thing I would have liked to have seen closer was the Snap On timing light, that was an old throwback. I think I remember that OTC code scanner 2000 as being one of the first out there. I remember back when all you had available was a paperclips and watching the blink code. No code was "12", one blink then 2 blinks, meaning "no tach signal". Did I mention memory lane??
@thetoolbandit

@@DGillyy that timing light is a bit of a piece of art, just a nice looking piece. Love it that you remember the codes! I bet that scanner wasn't cheap back in the day.

The two wooden dowel poles with suction cups are valve lapping tools, and the drawer that has the two valve spring tools has a t bar handle claw on the bottom looking thing it's for compressing the valve spring compressor to get the valve spring keepers out with the head on the vehicle usually provided you have compressed air constant pressure to hold the valve up in the head

The only way I could make any money from that $1800 investment would be to warranty everything and hope that Snap-on would approve the claim. I think you could pull a few hundred from the sell of the boxes, but that was a helluva gamble... Good luck

That's why i have a problem buying older boxes and older tool lots like this. They are almost always full to the brim of mostly SAE, with just a few metric pieces sprinkled in here and there. In 20 more years though, it'll be nice because the older boxes and older tool lots will be mostly metric, with a few SAE sprinkled in.

Love the tool box reveal videos. Sorry it wasn’t a slam dunk. You should be able to get some money out of the box, the ratchets and wrench sets. Unfortunately it is going to take some time. I thought the Skil air chisel was cool, I had no idea that Skil dabbled in the air tool business. Have a good night

Yes, the box has value but it will take time to find someone will to pay close to what it is worth. I may keep the side box, those are harder to find with the drawers all the way down.
