Vintage Snow & Nealley Hudson Bay Axe part 2

I rehabilitate an early L. L. Bean marked Snow & Nealley Hudson bay axe. I apologize for the unfocused part of the video. I'm still learning the camera. I wanted to get this 1920's axe in good usable condition while keeping the original handle.

We used to call that type of electrical tape "friction tape" and used it to wrap out ice hockey sticks so they would not split. Went through rolls of that stuff. Have not seen it for years, just the new shiny stuff.

Yeah, that was good tape for a lot of uses. Pre duct tape era too.

Now THAT is a proper Hudson Bay axe. Not one of those silly shallow eye models.

That older Hudson Bay axe looks like it would be a great splitter but not very good for chopping 👍

Also, most Maine made axes were made with an overcoated bit forge welded over a mild carbon steel body.
