Although ... on the flip side, I did buy a taped up, horribly boxed 1991 fleer basketball ... And have found 4 of the 6 sub inserts including the Michael Jordan!!! That box was not wrapped from BBCE but purchased from a local swap meet of all places!!! So I was more skeptical of that box, and turns out it has fared much better!! Great video as always, you have a fan in me!!!

Thanks buddy! How weird with your box… glad it turned out OK. If you read the comment above (I believe), you’ll see that I think I found out the reasoning for the weird collation. I was perfectly neglected a section of the cut sheets. I think it was a Topps error after all! A little mental peace has been restored I think 😬. Thanks again for watching!

That is weird! But doesn't surprise me with Topps back in the day. Opened baseball cards in the early eighties that had the same player in almost every pack

I opened a full box of 1986 topps baseball .... and it was a BBCE wrapped box!!! I opened them on my channel and there was a pack with 12 pitchers .... 15 cards came in a pack so I don't know, maybe Topps was just that bad!!!

Well, this sucks! I would be inclined to think these were tampered with, but maybe there's a chance it's an oddball legit box. (Doubt it, though). I've had similar experiences buying individual packs on Ebay. I recently bought 8 packs of 1980 ESB series 1, opened 3 packs and knew something wasn't right. Stickers were on the back instead of mid-pack. No Star File cards. Had one with a waxy card in the middle of the pack. Cards w/sharp corners were off-center. Centered cards always had a corner ding. I've gotten duped on 1977 packs before too that basically had wrappers glued together, stuck to the top card and cards inside were like PSA 6's. Worst part about the hobby is all the scamminess out there. I'm a little surprised to see it with this series that isn't SUPER valuable. It seemed like a lot of these cards had that weird, yellow overlay in certain sections of the card. Kind of like that Luke pilot card that you pointed out. You've had good luck so far w/other boxes. MAN, I just HOPE that 1977 series 1 box is legit!!!

So sorry to see this pal. Im not a fan of BBCE. Have seen too many boxes that have been tampered with. I would rather have a BBCE box than a non BBCE if ordering online. If I buy in person I can pretty much tell if they have been resealed. Going to do a video on this. You should have some recourse.

I have to say… I think I have discovered that it was actually NOT tampered with. Believe it or not. After looking at an uncut sheet of ESB Series 3 cards… the exact section of cards I did not get, were all on a perfect section of the sheet. I really think this is what happened. I kind of go over it in my first video of the Series 1 break. I have a visual of what section wasn’t included. Let me know if you think you agree. Thanks man! Keep up your good work!!

Take heart, E….I don’t think the box has been rifled through….I saw a box like this of 1977 baseball from a channel called Jabs Family…it was BBCE authenticated but it was the same issue…the same cards kept showing up…upon further examination, it was a single sheet of cards that ended up being put in the same box, ie the error was at Topps….I think you are fortunate that most of the good cards are in your box….the art cards at the front aren’t that great - and the McQuarrie cards are so so….you are getting crazy multiples of the best cards in this set, especially that title card and all the great Vader cards…there is probably one whole sheet or section that was left out at Topps way back in 1980…..the art cards of Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian are nothing to write home about….I mean, I would take that title card over a Boba Fett art card any day of the week

Well that makes me feel a ton better! Even if there is a 5% chance you’re wrong. You are right though. I felt that way about the McQuarrie cards too. Why would they take all of those?? …I thought. That gives me more confidence for what is about to happen 😬🤞🏻. There was an IG-88 card that was not in there at all too. But even then, I would trade vader cards for those. It just means I’ll have to get another box of ESB S3 though… to get a set of it at least. Thanks so much PJ!

That was a horrible box however, I don't think it had been picked through. All the cards and stickers seemed to be packed correctly the way topps would have done it, first card had the wax, sticker in the middle. People who tear through packs typically would not be so careful to put cards they didn't want back the correct way.

You couldn’t be more right…. on all points. It in fact, wasnot picked through. The section of cards I didn’t get, were perfectly all together on the uncut sheet of cards. I just somehow got a box without this group of cards. I have piece of mind now 😬. Thanks Rick

Very suspicious box. Topps did a decent job with randomizing the packs into these boxes back in 1980 and while the collation of the 88cards/22 stickers wasn’t perfect, each Empire Series 3 wax box would yield multiple full sets and full sticker sets. The fact that you got *no* Ralph McQuarrie “space painting” cards, *no* production “behind the scenes movie fact” cards, and *none* of the 16 illustrated character cards…and that the 36 packs you opened *only* contained certain photo still cards that repeated over and over……points to the box possibly being tampered with. Scammers can easily open wax packs, remove certain cards, insert their own duplicates or unwanted cards, and then carefully reseal the wax pack using light glue or hot wax. And something like this could get by an inspecting company like BBCE. We also don’t know what happens at BBCE during the inspection process. Anyone on the staff could remove packs and replace with other packs. We have no idea what happens with the boxes they receive and authenticate. Not saying this happens at BBCE, but it’s logically possible. That’s why, I personally don’t buy full wax boxes from any authenticating company like BBCE. Rather, I like to buy case-fresh wax boxes being pulled out of a fresh 1977 case where the reputable seller shows images of the cases they are pulling the box out of, and they provide multiple images of the wax box and with the lid open so you can see if the packs are sitting undisturbed and look clean. But, still, it’s possible that anyone could pull off a scam and private collectors are no exception. Looking forward to watching Part 1 of your Series 1 box rip. Sounds like it’s on-deck.
