I like that you show the whole trial-and-error process instead of just jumping to the final item.

Dave, I LOVE seeing you work in Photoshop! You don't do things exactly the way I do, but that's EXACTLY why I love it! Photoshop is so versatile, there's always more than one way to skin a cat, so I learn some new things every time I see you work, and I'm always impressed with how you go about things! You're amazing!

Brilliant. The reason the Jawa figure has that cape (I always liked my Jawas to not have them as it hides the well sculpted details on the figure), was that there were some complaints from parents about the cost of the Jawa when it was so tiny, but it still cost the same as a larger figure. The more complicated fabric cape was introduced to add a bit more value to the Jawa. Interestingly, the cape will fit other figures, like Obi Wan, quite well.

my mom achieved this on a larger scale back in 1978 for my Halloween costume - my dad rigged me up a headband with light-up eyes, and yes I wore 'blackface'

The Jawa cape looks fabulous and sparked some thoughts in my Star Wars addled brain. If you did not sew up the front of the cape, it might look pretty good and create some variety in a multi Jawa display even though it would not be exactly the way Kenner did it. The same cape in maroon with an open front might look fantastic on a Snaggletooth and add variety to a Cantina display. The same cape in blue on an Ugnaught would also be interesting. The same cape in green with an open front and without the hood might make an eye catching jacket for Greedo... or maybe in black or brown for Hammerhead. The same cape shredded might look really good hanging from the fingers or teeth of the Rancor, as if he had just snacked on a Jawa. Keep up the great work!!!

Hey Dave Those capes look great. Perhaps keep your prototype for display purposes, a Jawa looking sideways, as their heads do not turn. 🙂 Happy Weekend to you and MrsTP Take care😊

Thanks for this pattern Dave. I've been tinkering with a pattern for my Jawas myself for a while now, but I never succeeded. I could only use reference photos of the cape, wich all resulted in a cape that was to long, to wide, to slim and so on 😄

Looks great, Dave! At first glance, I never would know the difference. The later material looks more sturdy too. Thanks for the share. Cheers!

It appears that the seam down the front of the robe makes the hood easier to attach, but also the tug of the front seam appears to tug a bit on the lower part of the hood so that it opens up a bit more so you can see the face just a little better. Nice work, man!

My immediate thought was to maybe use the vinyl design with the lighter fabric - be interesting to see how that looks!

Looks fantastic. On camera you can't even tell the difference in the color after it's put on the figure. Definitely looks a little tedious though. Another fine job. As always Dave thanks for all you do.

Oh, I can’t wait to tackle one of these, I’ve been waiting for this for a while, I’ve a couple of stansolo jawas that need fabric cloaks and hopefully these will look the business 👍

Never owned a Jawa (my brother did), but I've got recently bought the retro collection boxset. Finally I own a Jawa and a "Sandpeople" and have a nice shiny new R2 & C-3PO for display purposes. My original Death Squad Commander is in good enough condition but it's nice to have one with all the small paint details still on it. Ironically, I think I prefer the vinyl cape for the Jawa as it has such a well sculpted figure it seems a shame to hide all but the face.

I heard that when they were making them they couldn't find anything suitable. But someone working on the figures used his socks because they were the closest colour to the cloak in the film 😅

One reason for slits on fabric clothes for plastic figures and dolls is because the poa on the figures are less articulate than living beings, and dressing and dressing them is easier with the slits.

@@toypolloiI'm just janking your chain. Did you ever consider using metal bendy wire along the edges of capes? I've seen it used in some japanese imports or mythic legions figures. It allows you the flexibility and feel of cloth, but also some dramatic windy posing if you so please. Might be a fun experiment.
