This is truly fabulous footage, thankyou for posting! Avro Tutors K3362 to K3365 formed the Aerobatic Flight of the Central Flying School at Upavon. As we can see in the footage, this Flight had the upper surfaces of both wings painted with a brilliant orange Japanese Rising Sun, which was for the benefit of spectators because it allowed them to see whether or not the Tutors were flying upside down. Apart from the usual serial numbers, no identification characters were painted on these aircraft. At the beginning we see them taking off from RAF Hendon and overflying north London, the A1 and the A41 are clearly visible. The second half of the film holds fewer clues, but we can ascertain that the aircraft are Gloster Gauntlet Mk2's K5265, K5275 and K7809, and they are performing an astonishing aerial ballet featuring some of the most amazing piloting skill you are ever likely to see.

Wow he's tough! Flying inverted relentlessly pulls against the pilot. Continuous inverted flight becomes increasingly more taxing very quickly. And this pilot just cruises on and on so smoothly! These pilots are the real deal!

Formation fighters are Gloster Gauntlets which were the first RAF fighter to have a super charger. Replaced by the enclosed cockpit and better armed plus faster Gloster Gladiator, the Gauntlet saw success in combat with the Fins versus the Soviets in the 1939 Winter war and 1941 to 1944 Continuation War.

The form is so sloppy by today's standards (Still better than anything I could ever do), it's amazing how far we've came in terms of formation and stunt flying.
