It really says something when even the adverts were entertaining years ago... I can't imagine anyone will want to make a channel of today's!

I can only vaguely recall the Argos advert. Their catalogues used to entertain me for hours.

Who would have thought that of all the things on offer here, the Lego set in the green shield stamp catalogue ad would be one of the most desirable today.

Yellow pages must have been like very helpful back in those times who agrees?!
@RetroSteveUK5 ай бұрын
I do agree, and it was very helpful at the time, with no internet access at all. Next best thing was phoning up directory enquiries and asking for a number.

One of my sisters did her YTS at Debenhams department store! I wouldn't have thought operating a till or merchandising stock required high levels of skill. I should have done a YTS in 1994 but stayed on at school at 6th Form which wasn't that great. The school admin fluffed up my timetable.

Sellotape Snail pays for itself. Practically every second note was ripped in those days. I also had a pathological hatred of the geezer with the toblerone bonce that scratched the mahogany table. Turns out I was correct in my assessment.

These ads are awesome! Very nostalgic Argos ads, love 'em! Asking your 'Milkman' for a leaflet lol. A bet future young people (or even young people of today) would be confused with part of the Yellow pages ad, as one of them has a man sitting at a desk with a computer. They may wonder, why is he trying to get a number from a yellow book when he's got some kind of computer on his desk! 😂Oh and 'Fly Fishing by J R Hartley isn't a real book. It was just an idea thought up for the advert. The man who plays 'J R Hartley' was the late Norman Lumsden. Interestingly, there is an actual book of the same name, but it's a spoof, written by Michael Russell under the pseudonym of J. R. Hartley. I'm sure they changed the OXO family ads sometime in the 90's because they believed that most families didn't sit around the table anymore. I still do, as do my brother's family.

Yeah, I do remember seeing a novelty Fly Fishing book for sale on a gift/gadget website. You know, for years I thought he was asking for "Flight Machine" by J.R. Hartley.

The first made me laugh with the green stamps you can get it free? Idiots you still had to spend money to get the stamps so it ain’t free. And wasn’t the oxo ad actually a new ad for the 90s they redid it like it said a reunion after when it was off air for years being the 80s??
@RetroSteveUK Жыл бұрын
Yeah, those ads ran for years.
