First Austen, then the Brontes, now Woolf? Vintage is absolutely killing it with these redesigns of classics. Such unique and gorgeous editions. What a prize to be won! I first read (or tried to read) Mrs. Dalloway three years ago but just couldn't get on with the overwhelming stream of consciousness style.. then I discovered audiobooks and my whole experience with that little novel changed. So for anyone who is struggling through it or didn't fully understand it the first time, I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Annette Bening! She really helps the story flow.

Her prose is just so delicate and nuanced- To the Lighthouse so brilliantly captures how intersecting egos and concerns subjectively process the same events, and really allows her to explore so many themes in a relatively compact novel.

I've never read any Woolf - I picked up To the Lighthouse once as a teenager and couldn't make head or tail of it but I would love to try again (what is now many years later)! All these beautiful vintage classic sets coming out are making it so easy/tempting to get back into classics by the way (which I had moved away from for quite a while) - currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and loving it. I've read to the lighthouse, the waves and recently Orlando. I think Virginia woolf is an extraordinary human beings when it comes to her writings and her books. She's my favorite author

I'm obsessed with the narrator in stories, how the story is conveyed can be enthralling. As a kid I wrote from the point of view of aliens on earth, a lot. Once attempting the narration from a computer that recorded events. I'm in the same boat as you having just never got around to her work. I've watched a few fascinating documentaries on her life. I'm absolutely fascinated by Virginia Woolf. I read most of her novels (except for The Years), but all of them in translations. Even though I read in English, I'm just a little bit intimidated by the original versions. Perhaps it's time to give it a go and prove myself wrong ( or not:-)). You really nailed it with the floating soul idea! Everyone told me 'you must read To the Lighthouse, you'll love it' and I slogged through the first part unconvinced until I got to 'Time Passes' (the middle bit) and was mowed down. The only contemporary writer who comes close to doing her style justice (IMO) is Kathryn Davis. Please put my name in the hat!

Hi, I love Virginia Woolf. Period. Not because her writing is flawless or because her plots are perfectly executed but because when she is good, she is amazing! I first read Mrs Dalloway as a kid and her style confused me so much, I left the book midway. Then later on I read To The Lighthouse for a literature course and fell in love with her stream-of-consciousness style. I haven't read all of Woolf but count her as one of my favorite writers because even though she has a tendency to meander in her writing, I'd rather be moved by a writer than impressed by a writer, and Woolf has this knack of squeezing out emotions out of me I didn't even know I had. I really hope I win this set!

I read Mrs. Dalloway in university in a class where interestingly not the stream-of-consciousness was the main focus in this book but the 24 hour narrative. It was really interesting to see how those two techniques complemented each other in this beautiful book. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to read any other book of Ms. Woolf but I absolutely endeavour to read her books soon! Especially considering my course of studies which is concerned with modernisnm and modernity! Love the new editions and I would completey devour them ASAP! :)

My first Virginia Woolf's book was also "Mrs. Dalloway". I read this one as I wanted to read Michael Cunningham's The Hours which is based on Woolf's life. I would like to explore more of her books. I am thinking of "To the Lighthouse" next.
