It takes great courage & nerves of steel to race one of these front-engine nitro dragsters.......and the old funny cars too, that came a little while later. Man, they were losing a lot of drivers back in those days. Here's yet another video of vintage dragsters where there are NO straps to hold that blower down for safety. That gives me the chills all by itself. Not to mention a clutch letting go right between your feet/legs. Like I said: nerves of steel. I get the fact they didn't use them back then, but knowing what they know today, and the availability of such safety equipment.......I would think that they would all make an exception........to harness those blowers down. But they ARE very cool all the same. Back when they tuned these engines with ZERO "computer software".

I see the Aussies brought along a tent from Castlereagh dragway...That's where I saw it in action...good stuff...That track is long gone.

These are the type of dragsters I used to watch as a teenager at Green Valley Raceway. I don't care for the new cars

I used to go there as a kid. Great old track. I got to meet Evel Knievel there. Saw my first real chopper there. Been on bikes ever since. Great times.

@@charlesharper7292 Did you ever see the metal flake gold AA/A 23 T roadster of the Capers Brothers take a run down the track?

I prefer spinning the tires and making smoke, but that breaks more parts!
@kierstyrouge61929 жыл бұрын
Hi CMS… Take a look at a clip I did called "Top End Charge". I think the missing ingredient for not breaking parts is UNPREPPED asphalt. Much more forgiving on everything. Wish we had it today. Thanks for the comment. Bill

is that fuel they sqirt in the intake on shutdown? if so why
@anonymousanonymous99914 жыл бұрын
Floods it and kills the spark. These cars run ballpark 6:1 compression ratios so they're pretty easy to kill. Nitro is potent stuff hehehe

@ziggassedup We will be most likely. But not with the car. :)
