Excellent video! I am an old mechanical engineer trying to correlate experience I obtained on cars and bikes many years ago with the corresponding procedure for my chainsaw : I’ve been looking for this info for weeks! The many other videos I ‘d hoped would show how to time the saw from first principles were confusing, verbose, and just didn’t! In this video, the task was explained so clearly and succinctly. Thank you! I’ve subscribed! 😊

Really appreciate the videos mate. Trying hard to restore my father's 08s with your help. However, for the life of me I cannot seem to get a timing mark below 30 degrees. I've adjusted the points and the plate. I start reaching full rotation and cannot go any further. Gonna sleep on it for a bit.

When the points are new it can limit it. 30 degrees isn’t too bad, I think stock is 28. Though don’t quote me, it’s been a couple of years!!!

@@VintageEngineRepairs cheers... they are new points... 28 might just be workable

I do a bit different, I use caliper rule and I mark on crankcase 2.1mm down the top dead center. Using a multimeter I can loose the points until they open in my crankcase mark
