Have you ever considered an ultrasonic cleaner? I don't own one yet but am trying to decide on which one to get.

Hi Anthony. Funny you should ask this as I recently met another restorer and were were talking about cleaning parts. He has one of those and highly recommended one. I have never used one myself. I think some of them might be marketed to folks who work on /clean jewelry but it could be a possibly useful and time saving tool. I should look into one.

My ultrasonic cleaner arrived the other day. I bought a larger one so that I can do carburetors too. I also bought a container of jewelry solution. Mixed up the solution. Turned the heat up to 60 Celsius and started cleaning (30 minute cycles). It does work! Parts come out clean. What it does not do is make the parts shinier, just cleaner. It great for the scroll fronts and springs. Really small parts, like screws, I put into a glass with the cleaner solution and place it right on top of the basket with the other parts. The screws come out clean and don't fall through the basket. For rust I am experimenting with the glass trick but using CLR full strength in the glass. Warning. I made the mistake of putting a bobbin winder with the painted part still attached in the jewelry solution. The paint was coming off after 30 minutes. Won't do that again.
