I've been to 167mph ONCE in my Viper. Definitely a vehicle capable of that sustained speed and it was frightening. Being at a constant 140mph is far from an easy feat. The attention and situational awareness needed are almost athletic. On a racetrack it's normal but on roads it's chaotic.

I’ve never done sustained distances over like 5-10 miles at 160+ and it’s only been on a motorcycle but oddly enough it feels like I’m more aware of everything around me at 140+ than I am at like 80. I’ve done 175 in a car but it was just go to 175 and then slow down. Doubt I got the mental fortitude to do it for hundreds of miles or even 1 hour tbh.

You couldn’t have said it better. Anything above 110-120mph on public highways requires an awareness of grip, turning radius, road condition, not to mention obstacles that appear in an instant, it requires superhuman focus that to maintain for hours on end doesn’t seem possible to me. @Thewes_express111Ай бұрын
My thought process was that the sheriff was operating in his home state. Additionally, many police cars can communicate with the State Police via radio. I didn’t want to risk challenging the sheriff, especially since he would likely have had evidence if we were stopped and could serve as a strong witness against us. So, we decided to play it safe. Once the sheriff exited, it was time to pick up the pace again.

Must ask the question: What was your trip MPG? Thinking a lighter car like this SAAB with smaller engine, capable of speed, might reduce fuel stops. Has anyone done rolling refueling?
@nikkrueger5734Ай бұрын
The boost leak ended up being a blown gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo which not only lost us a lot of boost but also made the car run rich. We ended up close to 12mph. In prior runs though, the car was 16-17mpg and it probably would have been about 15mpg on this run otherwise. Mobile refuelling - crazy and cool in concept. We've all thought of it, but no one has seen a way to do it safely and in a way that it actually saves time vs a regular well-timed gas station stop which allows for driver changes and bathroom breaks.
@dmwi1549Ай бұрын
Bathroom? Driver change? All been done by truckers and high schoolers. Shoot, Louie Mattar of San Diego could do all that and refuel, change tires and change oil in his 1947 Cadillac while setting records driving across continents.
@dmwi1549Ай бұрын
Not suggesting a fuel trailer. Just a pump from another vehicle at speed limit. Or passing smaller fuel bladders. Would be fun to explain that to a trooper. Just saying-if 10 minutes stood between you and the next record, not stopping would save much more time. Especially on lonely stretches. Someone is bound to do it eventually.

Ive had the speedometer in my 440 powered 69 Sport Satellite solidly pegged for miles thanks to temp replaced 2:73 rear end. Mamual drum brakes frint and back. Typical 1/4 turn of play in super touchy Mopar power steering! It was a white knuckle shake rattle and rollin!! LOL Compaired to my little 99' SLK230 thatll run over 100mph steady as sitting still you can really appreciate how much easier high speeds in a well engineered vehicle are to handle.

Good work boys. 🤠Watch for bridges when the road surface is 35° sometimes the bridge decks freeze, especially in the shadows...and where the shadows are at other parts of the day.

The Audi team this weekend set a sub record of their own actually! They got through after I40 opened back up and made a crazy run into LA!

i know i could google this question but is there also a border to border world record? like border of mexico to border of Canada?
@christophermichaelsАй бұрын
It’s been discussed. You’re on the right track Dice!
@rollthedice.5973Ай бұрын
@@christophermichaels gotcha because i’ve never seen it spoken about especially on vinwiki where i’d assume it would be ig since it not as heavy of an ordeal as coast to coast than i get it
@marklittle8805Ай бұрын
The Border with Canada is only about 4000 miles wide lol. I think someone needs to define the challenge. I think another good challenge would be North/South/North challenge. Start at the US Canada border crossing at the Peace Arch on I-5. Run to El Paso Texas and have a check point there you must hit and then run to Houghton Maine and the Canadian Border in New Brunswick.

I love this but i can never understand how you dont catch charges/get impounded whenever people do this. Even if you have blockers and spotters looking for troopers, dont you end up getting intercepted based on karens calling you in? Or just roadblocking the one saab (not like its one of the 10 million camrys out there) on a given stretch of interstate even if it isnt speeding at the time by tracking your rough position off the call-ins? Or even having a team come to you with a warrant after posting evidence like this?
