Vinyl Finds #56 | September 2022 St. Louis Record Show Finds!

I made the trek to St. Louis today for the St. Louis Record Show. It's always a fun time and this was no exception. I got some great records, but more importantly, I caught up with a ton of great people that I haven't seen in a year or more. It was super fun catching up and talking records and life with everyone. Always great to see you Matt. I liked this video because I sell records on the side in an antique shop and I spend more money on resellers than I do for my own collection too. I agree. If I can buy a record or two for myself, it’s a great day! Cheers, Brian☘️

Very fair price for that Miles Davis. I'm glad I got my copy of Futureshock for a buck. I can't believe The Queen is Dead sells for that much now.

Hahaha! You know, you’ve got a fair point. I was literally in front of a window and didn’t even think to open it. We’ve got an old house and some of the windows are painted shut but this one works just fine. I’m just a moron :/

Hey there Matt. Good to see you again. The show sounded great all around. Nice to see hear that you saw Brian and a few others. Sam couldn't make it? As a longtime Smiths collector I kind of anticipated the original pressings going up. As soon as I saw the Rhino box sets and reissues come out I knew right then that all of the original UK/Rough Trade and the domestic pressings were going to be tougher to find. I picked up a test pressing of the debut album about ten years ago for $65. It has become very pricey now. Fusion was my intro to jazz. Although I listen to more free and hard bop stuff nowadays. But I still listen to Herbie, Weather Report, McLaughlin, etc... There is a private press album by a band called Genre. The album is called Commercial Success. It was sent to me by Chris Cole from the VC. If you ever see it for a good price or while you are digging, grab it. I think you will like it. >< Thanks Matt. Hot? Yeah you are, tiger.Wait, What? Lol. Jazz section? New Orleans or Utah? Back corner guy. I love nicknames. When I shopped my favorite was grail guy. Dude always had grails for days. Fusion? Oh no. Hey, mariners took 2/3 from the Braves. Game 3 was very dramatic. Braves scored 5 times with 2 outs in the ninth to take a 7-6 lead. Seattle hit two solo shots in the bottom half to walk it off. I had that Chico Hamilton album. It was ok. I too like Larry coryell. His album with the free spirits was awesome. I had that boa constrictor record at one time. Never spoke to me. I had that Alice Coltrane too. Gone as well. The smiths are fairly cool but so much if their stuff (morrisey’s solo stuff too) seems so derivative. Know what I realized? I’m pretty negative. Sorry about that. Hope you had a great time. I saw how much rain Chicago was getting watching football. Looked like the Midwest got drenched.

Man it was super great to see ya at that RS! You’re right man the turnout was outstanding! I also stopped to talk with Chance the Concert Buddie and right across from him was my friend Travis! Also seen Robert Fithen another VC member! And of course we both spoke Sam at Greg’s table! The morning was a whirlwind I had spent my budget within an hour Between Greg and the guy who has all the killer obscure psych reissues to the left! I actually really like that Hollies album! I know exactly who “back corner guy” is and have scored some stuff from him in the past! Great VV scores! Travis is a cool dude! I talked to him for a little bit right after I got there. I meant to double back to his table but it got crowded and I forgot to go back. Hope he did good selling! Was cool seeing Greg and Sam too. I don’t think I ran into Robert (if I did, Robert, my memory is terrible!). The St. Louis vinyl community is strong! We definitely need to do a proper meet up and record store crawl. Grab some food and drinks too. By the way, love the new digs! I need to go back and comment on the vid but watched it last night. It’s a sweet place!

Hey Matt, I haven't been to a Record Show since before the Pandemic started. I think they might have folded where I am. Thank goodness that my one thift store that is left has been decent lately. Great finds as always. If The Smiths are going for big bucks these days, I guess I am out of the loop! Take care...

Check out your 80s stuff in your collection and I’m sure it’s all gone up like crazy. Stuff like Depeche Mode and talking heads and REM and the smiths, etc have all shot to the moon in the last year or two. It’s crazy.

Hey where's Dragonfly?? Cool find with the Queen is dead! Been looking for one my self, but waiting for a cheap copy lol. Wasn't a fan when I could've picked it up cheap. It's definitely grown on me now. Always thought the debut was all I needed. Still my favorite. Always nice to see new videos.

Dragonfly will be shown soon :) Was trying to save it for a video with Sam but may have to show it before then. I’m glad I picked up Queen is dead. It’s more than I normally spend on a single record but I got meat is murder and the debut for free and only paid $25 for louder than bombs. Figured I could pay up and still be out ahead :) Here’s hoping you find a cheap copy soon! Thanks, Omar!

Great finds, Sir. I know that Joe Zawinul was sore about the changes that Miles made to "In A Silent Way" when they recorded it, but, after hearing Joe's restored version/vision of the tune with Weather Report i have to say that Miles was right.

Crossings is a great record, classic! Future Shock is ''shit''!, might even be worse than King Crimson and Grateful Dead, it's that bad! Alice C a good buy at 15$, not her best, but listenable!
