I saw Zappa in 1975. The crowd rushed the stage. He told them to stop, sit down, so the people in the back could see. Then the entire show was him playing and skat singing. He had an anoyed look on his face at one point at the end of the show. The last song he played was : "The Idiot Bastard Son". That was a great concert. It featured this woman playing the zylaphone. That was the only electric percussion instrument at that time. That's what I was told anyway back then by an expert jazz drummer. I read that Lou Reed didn't like Zappa's music. Well as Andy Warhol would say: " So What".

Zappa opened my mind and has made me unprejudiced with all kinds of sounds. The first time I was exposed to contemporary music, free jazz, all kinds of outsiders, it was thanks to him. he enriched my life with his music, and made me reach many other artists. plus of course it made me laugh out loud. "MUSIC IS THE BEST"

In the Days of Vinyl Monday Past I've found a favourite. A lovely relaxed discussion with you enthusing about your new stuff. Gratitude shines out and Paul must have felt elated. My fav would have been Benefit because I picked up a copy pre-owned, side one is perfect but side two clicky all way through. I also came away with Joni's Hejira where I think the paper inner sleeve had degraded into a white dust but the album plays lovely. What's Going On is a great exception as exceptions go. Collecting what you listen to and not heeding some guidelines that are some kind of Vinyl bible just emphasizes how you think for yourself. In this early video I found the natural individualism and enthusiasm of it's creator just irrisistable. So good A.

Love your videos, you are such a delight, I feel I know you! Wanting to tell you that yes indeed, Quadrophenia is also a great rock and roll movie. It comes w a dbl set soundtrack, different from THE WHO release. One side is older songs from other artists, like Louie Louie. That side also includes an early WHO song, I'm The Face. Then there are 3 sides of songs from THE WHO Quadrophenia album. Includes one song that is a rare WHO song entiled, Get Out Stay Out. Chk the movie and soundtrack out, I'm sure you'll love them! Greetings Abby ! I can't say enough about how much I love your channel. Your love of vinyl for someone so young is integral for keeping that medium alive. Also your grasp of artist history is beyond commendable ! I started collecting vinyl long before you were born and it is def an addiction. I was a DJ on commercial radio stations from the mid 80's to the early 90's. During that time period I wrote and produced my own weekly oldies show using my own records and CD's ! I know how much you love the " Layla..." album , since you have 4 or 5 copies of it. For me , the album that I love that much is " Tumbleweed Connection " by Elton John. I have 3 copies on record , and 2 on CD ! I can't express how much I love your channel. I know that I could talk music with you for hour upon hour ! The red and blue Beatles comps are the first albums I bought with my own money when I was but a wee lad. Original US press on Apple. But my favorite find of yours was A Group Called Smith. Love that one. Love Gayle McCormick’s voice. Wish she sang on more of the tracks. That’s a good one for a thrift store find.

I'm British and I discovered this album in 1974. My girlfriend at the time had a few Beach Boys records which she liked to play, we were at high school. Her brother was at college and he left his uncool records behind at home. I liked the album and thought it was pleasant. My friends were not so kind and thought it was just dated 1960s pop. They liked British rock bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, The Who, Zeppelin, Crimson, Deep Purple, and Sabbath. The list was endless, as many bands had recording contracts. My generation never understood why Brian Wilson was considered a genius. It sounds a lot like elevator music.

Sorry I can't watch all back episodes right away, these work pretty much like a universe trip since it's like seeing a categorically-superior version of me etc etc, having to turn it off, "can't handle" type thing. (sorry the only other nickname aside from Abbus/"the Abbess" that came right away was "Flashback", which is damn clichéd, normal and drug-specific). These hit freakin hard but same as with..."that", it eventually comes back around to being the greatest stuff I've ever seen. oh hey somethin from "the Bay, man" lol, love QMS except for Dino. Beach Boys are always great, saw them in concert at MSG N.Y. on Thanksgiving late 70's. Quadraphenia,Magic Bus,Who's Next, My Generation,and The Who Sell Out my favorites.I was in love with Donovan when I was a teen,I always wanted that album you have "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was used on a Loves Cosmetics commercial. Great score at the Good Will. Congrats ! Big fan of Donovan too. Surf's Up has some real gems on it. I was able to get Feel Flows: The Sunflower & Surf's Up Sessions 1969-1971, such a joy. My favorite Steve Miller Band releases are the first four albums, 1968-1969, I guess that means his psychedelic period. Excellent, entertaining presentation. All the best to you !

Great collection and love your reviews. Noted James Taylor "Sweet Baby James" . I have had this and "Mud Slide Slim etc." on replay for over a week. Would rate the latter as better but both send me to such a happy place. He is just so laid back, love his natural voice, love the melodies and great backing musicians etc. But above all, many of his songs are full of "that loving feeling". Have a great Christmas. Keep doing what you're doing. Love it.

Donovan's Greatest Hits was another heavy rotation in my Mom's household - love it. My personal fave is COSMIC WHEELS; not his most popular, but it's his glam record and, frankly, Marc Bolan borrowed a good chunk of Donovan mojo to begin with so... I'm heavy on glam rock, it's a major rabbit hole!

I am a huge Doors fan, but I always liked the Dennis Leary joke about how we didn't need a 2 1/2 hr movie about them. Leary said he could some it up in 10 secounds. Jim Morrison, I'm drunk I'm nobody, I'm drunk I'm famous, I'm drunk I'm dead, end of story. Ok that was very insensitive I know. I heard a radio interview with Ray Manzaric twords the end of his life. He said that Oliver Stone should've remembered that it was he that was the college drop out, and Jim Morrison that graduated from the UCLA school of cinema with honors. I still think that Jim Morrison would have gone onto a huge career if it wasn't for all the factors that destroyed him. I know a girl who went to see them in concert. She said that Morrison spent most of the last part of the show, under the stage with the microphone, daring anyone to come under the stage and fight him. Was he out of control? Yes for sure. Was he the Rock and Roll equivalent of Earnest Hemmingway. To me he was.

Awesome you love the Beach Boys. It is my youngest daughter's favorite band. I took her to see them for her 13th birthday a few years back. During the concert she told me she wanted to meet Mike Love. Long story short, she got to meet Mike Love and he autographed her Beach Boys baseball cap. Talk about being the best dad ever! lol

Hey Abigail-what a fun video! Howlin' Wolf is one o' the greatest ever. Check out his other classic albums. Back In The USA is also my favorite MC5 album. Al Jardine (Beach Boys) lives in Big Sur 'n I run into him from time to time in Carmel. A rare double Donovan album I highly recommend is HMS Donovan. Kathy's Song is also a favorite. Check out the original version on Paul Simon's first solo album, The Paul Simon Songbook. Do you have James Taylor's first album on Apple Records? He went to England 'n The Beatles signed him. Fantastic! Quadrophenia is one o' my favorite Who albums but I pretty much recommend any o' their early releases. I especially like A Quick One While He's Away. Benefit is my favorite Jethro Tull album-I first saw them live on the Benefit tour-but I must admit I'm a Jethro Tull fanatic 'n highly recommend any 'n all o' their early records. I bought Freak Out! when it was new 'n collected all Mothers O' Invention albums. We're Only In It For The Money is a MUST LISTEN! Check out Steve Miller Band's first two albums-Children O' The Future 'n Sailor. 'N pay special attention to the track My Dark Hour on the Anthology album you have-Paul McCartney on drums 'n backin' vocals! Keep up the good work-Best wishes from John.

He wasn’t rich, just a normal guy with a wife and kids. Hard to believe that he’s already been gone for more than than thirty years. By the way, I really enjoy your taste in music. It’s refreshing! I just listened to my Derek And The Dominos 20th Anniversary Layla Sessions and More... I know I didn't say that title right but I haven't listened to it in a while.. yesterday. I had not heard it in eons and I had a real craven to hear Thorntree in the Garden, the last track. I remember the first time I heard that song and it was on CD when that same release I just mentioned was put out in the 1990s. I love that song and it hit home back then and brings me back home today 😢 I always enjoy seeing people's collections and seeing what they like and get. I'm about to try and work out a ride, since I can't see well enough to drive anymore, and hit some of the many Goodwill stores in the Fort Worth area. I know a lot of the gems have been removed by other record collectors. But you never know when somebody might bring in a collection and drop it off where I might be the first person to come across it. I've also been going through the 400 plus albums that were given to me by a friend that was going to throw away his LPs or take them to Goodwill until he remembered me and asked if I wanted them. I've been going through them over the last month and have found some really awesome gems. This friend is older than me and had been stationed over in South Korea in the late '70s and early '80s as a US Army helicopter pilot. He bought all kinds of Korean pressings of American music. I've been trying to find many of these Korean, nowadays called South Korean, pressings on discogs. And they do have a lot of them but there are many nobody has added yet. I need to figure out how to go about adding all of the pertinent information and updating a few pressings of albums not there. One that I listened to today was Supertramp Breakfast in America. I had never owned that album and really hadn't heard a lot of it. It blew me away how Hi-Fi this pressing was for 1980. I'm still trying to figure out what the KECPP is, something that is written on the back of many of these South Korean pressings, and I think it is their Ministry of Culture and Information in South Korea? I don't know for sure? But it's fun going through and learning as I make my way through these albums. He had almost everything he gave me boxed up perfectly and in mint condition for the most part. Anyway, I can't proofread this message today but I just wanted to leave a comment and say I'm enjoying seeing what new records you have got. That is always so much fun finding things and getting them especially if the price is nice (And I'm not talking about those old record hype stickers that said The Nice Price haha). man, "thorn tree" has to be one of the best album closers ever. especially following the emotional onslaught that is "little wing," "it's too late," and of course the title track. it's tough not to get misty eyed after all that. i have that Layla sessions set! got it for maybe $20 because the guy at the record store was convinced a CD was missing. (a CD was not, in fact, missing) i hope you can work out that ride to continue your vinyl collecting adventures. and enjoy all your new acquisitions - that stuff from Korea sounds super cool! take care

It's definitely an emotional ride in a good, remembering kind of way on the recordings and the way they are lined up On that Layla recording like you mentioned :-) And as the saying goes, where there's a will there's a way. And I always find a way to get by the local record stores and do some shopping. I sometimes get a friend to drop me off while they're doing whatever it is they have to do as they are out running around. I'll do my browsing and shopping and then get picked up by them when they're done with their running around haha. I love it and I could spend the day in a record store and still not look at everything. It's definitely a passion we have in this hobby 👍👍 I like to think of it as a way of life finding the historic and soul speaking music 🎶😁🎶

been keeping up with your videos cause it really helps me know/discover music from the 60's and 70's since that seems to be the time periods of music youre most interested in surprised to see you like Death Grips ! id HIGHLY recommend Clipping if you haven't heard them cause they're similar . also you been to Vermont ? im in the New England area and I don't that many record shops besides Newbury (as you mentioned) and Armageddon in Providence/Boston
