I don’t have a TON of box sets, but I have the Cadet set and personally I have never enjoyed a box set more than this one, from the album selections, the music, the sound, the booklet, the podcast, etc. It truly takes you on a journey, in my opinion. Also, I have no complaints about the packaging. The jackets are matte, non-glossy - that is the only difference I can see between those and every other tip-on jacket.

I have a few of the VMP Anthology box sets, not the Cadet, but as you say, the books, the podcasts, the packaging, it all makes for far more than a standard play through, it’s a real experience. They’re all fantastic, exceptionally high quality.

The Cadet box looks cool,I was a bit worried when you showed the gold vinyl,😉. Some nice titles this month .VMP a professional outfit for sure, wish they released more classic rock, saying that they do try and cover all genres ,Michael cool video 😎

I too was disappointed with the matt jackets in the Cadet box. Think about how amazing the Afroharping cover would have looked in a glossy tip-on jacket.

I find the jackets in this box set to be fantastic - beautiful matte finish. Much better than the glossy jackets imho

I don’t have a subscription with VMP but most of the records I’ve picked up from them have been R&B or Hip Hop, they are generally the best sounding copes available for a lot of them, I love it

The music and mastering of Sublime is INCREDIBLE. An album I grew up on, and sounds like California to me...and better than my CD. The imaging, separation, and rock solid center... Ryan Smith nailed it. Also....Cee Lo is a member of a legendary hip hop group from Atlanta that came out in the 90's called Goodie Mob. Good friends with Outkast. Always creative and very versatile.

Hip hop has always tended to artificially boost the bass! Which i never understood why my audiophile brother's/ sister's tend to "shun" heavy metal but praise rap when both genre's have a fair amount of distortions in them! Get an original copy of "loudness/thunder in the east" , and tell me thats not "jaw dropping!😅😊

I get a little nervous about buying remastered albums by Bob Ludwig or any other engineer for that matter. I believe Ludwig did Elton John’s 2016 remastered “Madman Across the Water” album. Elton’s vocals loose their youthfulness on the “Madman” remaster from 2016. I prefer the original release. I am always skeptical of remasters as I feel they often suck the life out of the original music in an attempt to make the albums sound more like contemporary releases. Better not to make “gods” out of individual mastering engineers - better to listen and judge each release on it’s sonic qualities. Sometimes the remasters are great - sometimes not so much.

Once again naming Kacey Musgraves a “guilty pleasure”. She’s a serious A-list Nashville singer songwriter. Insulting to that artist. And we find out that CeeLo Green is named just CeeLo with no context surrounding his mega hit Crazy with Gnarls Barkley. The music is truly secondary to you. Advocating purchases based on sound quality/ what VMP selects and parading it as if these are deliberate choices or worse the pretence that this is about widening your tastes. Terrifyingly shallow.

You're being too picky - of course! ;-) Clearly they were bringing the box set in at a price point - shame this is the reality, but it's the music that matters (like I need to tell you ... maybe we should retire that phrase ... ) Assume you ordered the Miles Davis box set? I passed on the Odetta, but might revisit it. Swapped out for The Awakening 'Hear, Sense and Feel'. Also ordered the Francois Tusques 'Free Jazz'. Stood fast with the Freddie Roach and added the Walter Bishop Jr' 'Keeper of My Soul' for May.

Musgraves is a great live performer, likes her trashy bling, but we’ll worth the ticket price.
