The LP (from "long playing"[1] or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of 33+1⁄3 rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. Apart from a few relatively minor refinements and the important later addition of stereophonic sound, it remained the standard format for record albums (during a period in popular music known as the album era)[2] until its gradual replacement from the 1980s to the early 2000s, first by cassettes, then by compact discs, and finally by digital music distribution.

Format advantages
At the time the LP was introduced, nearly all phonograph records for home use were made of an abrasive (and therefore noisy) shellac compound, employed a much larger groove, and played at approximately 78 revolutions per minute (rpm), limiting the playing time of a 12-inch diameter record to less than five minutes per side. The new product was a 12- or 10-inch (30 or 25 cm) fine-grooved disc made of PVC ("vinyl") and played with a smaller-tipped "microgroove" stylus at a speed of 33+1⁄3 rpm. Each side of a 12-inch LP could play for about 22 minutes.[4] Only the microgroove standard was new, as both vinyl and the 33+1⁄3 rpm speed had been used for special purposes for many years, as well as in one unsuccessful earlier attempt (by RCA Victor) to introduce a long-playing record for home use.
Although the LP was suited to classical music because of its extended continuous playing time, it also allowed a collection of ten or more pop music recordings to be put on a single disc. Previously such collections, as well as longer classical music broken up into several parts, had been sold as sets of 78 rpm records in a specially imprinted "record album" consisting of individual record sleeves bound together in book form. The use of the word "album" persisted for the one-disc LP equivalent.

Thank you so much., heaps. I have purchased second hand Phillips turntable machine by 2008 and familiarized with few things and listening songs but knew many new things today. Mechanical part in my machine is not much strong it seems. It doesn't work for 45 RPM, still 33.5 RPM works.

Bahut hi achhi jankari di hai sir aap ne. Mujhe turntable par hi song sunane me maza aata hai. मै स्वयं एक लंबे समय तक वॉल्व टाइप रेडियो व एम्पलीफायर के सुधार कार्य से जुडा रहा हूं। उस जमाने मे भारत मे वॉल्व एम्पलीफायर, 18 Watt से अधिकतम 65 Watt तक के ही बनाए जाते थे। प्रमुख कंपनियां थीं, आहूजा, कैपिटल, हरमन, कैनकैन इत्यादि। इनमे आउटपुट मे 6L6 व 6V6 (RCA U.S.) वॉल्व लगाए जाते थे। विदेशी वॉल्व एम्पलीफायर भी 100Watt तक के ही आते थे, जिनके आउटपुट मे EL34 या 6CA7 वॉल्व लगते थे। ये फिलिप्स, नीदरलैंड व नेशनल, जापान के बने होते थे। लगभग सभी के प्री- ऐम्पलीफायर मे "ECC83 व ECC82" वॉल्व (डबल ट्रायोड) लगाए जाते थे। मेरे पास अब भी कुछ नऐ 6V6, EL34 व ECC83 वॉल्व पडे हैं।

Avoid belt drive. Go for direct drive. I have a Hitachi HT350. It has a strobe light so you can check how perfect the RPM is. DD and Strobe are must. If your serious.

I have a Philips turntable (AF 834) purchased long 38 years ago. It is an excellent turntable with magnetic cartridge and diamond needle. Looks almost like your Denon, the only difference is the tone arm do not land on the record when starting, but it returns back at the end and platter stops rotating. Unfortunately I cannot play it any more because the driving belt has gone bad and no spare is available in the market. The video is nice but the product is very costly. This video will be very helpful for the new generation who does not have any exposure about a turntable and vinyl records. However I loved the video very much.

Aniket kahna chahte hai ke audio sampled at 192KHz with 24bit will be superior to Vinyl in these ways - 1- ease of playback, 2- endless repeatability with no loss of quality (ye Vinyl ke pick thode der me replace karna to padega lekin Record LP bhi ghis ghis ke response flat ho jate so naya medium yani LP record kharidna hoga ), 3 - zero phase distortion - RIAA preamp will always introduce phase distortion over the audio spectrum (whereas digital file will have no phase distortion at all freqs) Jus my 2 bits that all.
